My wife and I finally watched the last episode last night. I can't say I was overly impressed with the ending and it was definitely (in my opinion, at least) the least enjoyable and weakest episode of the series.
I loved the build up, the story, the characters adjusting to their surroundings and the emotional rollercoaster. But the end result was a let down. But I suppose there has to be enough scraps left for another series.

I thought it was fantastic. I enjoyed the twist about who was in charge (I thought it might be the case early on and was happy to see it) and how the different games were put together. The characters and their relationships were the strongest element, imo. I also like how the games changed alliances: at times it was everyone for themselves, others with teams, etc.
I think the ending made sense and, with all the success the show found, there will definitely be another season.

Something that just occurred to me.
Netflix was not willing to pay the rights to use the song “Fly Me To The Moon” for their edited versions Neon Genesis Evangelion.. so they edited it out of the end credits for every episode.
Yet, they have the song play at end of one the episodes. I thought at first it was the same exact version from Neon Genesis but I think it’s a different singer.
But anyway OK for a Netflix Original but not for Evangelion.

About the ending… {Spoiler}I don’t get what the issue is over how Gi-hun acts following the games. He’s very clearly dealing with severe ptsd induced survivors guilt which includes typical symptoms such as: self-imposed social isolation, lack of motivation, intense feelings of hopelessness and disconnection from surroundings, and other issues on top of that. His mother died alone in their home, meaning his motivation to go back to the games was for naught; his childhood friend died in front of his eyes along with every other contact he made in the games. It’s not surprising in that mindset he couldn’t meet with his own daughter, especially when he couldn’t even touch the blood money he’d been awarded.

Loved the series, with the marbles episode an absolutely brutal watch. The end was a bit of a cop-out, but I didn’t feel cheated or let down. My only real issue was with the VIPs; none of them could act (even behind masks) and the dialogue felt awkward. Other than that, an absolutely fantastic show.

I don't even mind the V.I.P.s because people who would watch this irl should be gauche, inarticulate, and swarmy.

I just got done watching the series. From a film making perspective, I thought this was very well done. Everything seemed carefully put together just right. It's kind of too depressing for me to give episodes a rewatch, but I will say I absolutely loved the tug o war episode because of how strategy came into play(was not expecting tug o war to have that).
It still perplexes me how this became a giant, mainstream phenomenon. When I first heard all my friends talking about Squid Game, it didn't surprise me since we're part of the anime/asian media fandom community. But then the snl parody of this popped up on youtube searches. America wanted depressing carnage it seems.

Same here, and also, this is a Korean series, I'm not expecting them to write American characters any better that western films do Asian ones. Just came off to me like people writing for a culture they didn't know.

Assume we're good for spoilers this far onwards?
- Everyone but Gi-hun and the front man dead (never saw the cops body though) 95% of the cast will be new, unusual for a cult favorites 2nd season. Sae-byeok's brother and Ali's wife could snoop into what happened to their loved ones for continuity. It there's been a time skip maybe Gi-hun's daughter (if he's gone missing) as well.
- Squid Game "universe" it was implied in one episode that the games take place in many countries (the VIPs mention Korea has the best ones). The show is very much a locally produced effort so might Netflix get more hands on to create this "universe"?
- Related but the VIPs are a big part of the lore and will probably prove to be more important characters going forward. They're going to have to cast professional English speaking actors rather than scouting the Seoul expats amateur dramatics club as they clearly did last time. The English dialogue is going to have to be edited to sound more natural ect. Netflix getting more hands on? Or they could retcon it and make the next round of VIPs Korean.
- They used a lot of K-drama character tropes in S1 (deadbeat dad manchild with a heart of gold, failed sneaky businessman, badass North Korean femme fatale, slimy gangster) its going to be interesting to see the type of characters for a mostly new cast.

Man what a fantastic show.
I can see why some of you didn't like the ending, it was frustrating, but I think the main character was simply being selfless by putting the safety of everyone else over his own happiness.

I'm completely fine with how Gi-Hun was acting. It was clear that the game changed him. Like, people are acting like he's completely fine when the reality is no, he came into the game messed up, he left messed up and now he's on the right path...but he's still messed up.
Only when all these Squid Game competitions are shut down can he truly be on the right path to heal. Until then he's struggling.

I just hope netflix stays hands off with the next season. Trying really carefully not to go into politics land, but I would hate to see the suits tell the creator to tone down the anti-capitlism element.

Yea, if it was a one off story the ending wouldn’t be satisfying but with this sequel announced we have something to look forward to There is a whole bunch of questions and shit we don’t know that can still be answered

One on Gi-Hun, another as a prequel with the Frontman, another on another country's games, another a future Squid Game, there's a lot they can do. Even one on IL Nam.

Yea, this is a whole franchise and has many possibilities to go about. You don’t even need to have Gi-Hun as the main protagonist and considering how these shows go in Korea, I keep expecting him to die Still makes me want Battle Royale animated or very least done in a series since it has been a long time since the movie

Because anything successful has to become an entire universe.
And we need more prequels.

Hopefully they manage to keep the hook of the games in.
These things about a specific setting always turn into "take down the evil organisation" and that's where they lose their hook and traction.
Prison Break, Hunger Games, Westworld...
