Gooker Award Candidates for 2021.

My main issue with the non-comedy interpretation of "worst of pro wrestling"... why didn't Chris Benoit win the Gooker? By the "Worst of Pro Wrestling" definition that's a slam dunk Gooker. THE Slam Dunk Gooker. Might as well rename the award to the Chris Benoit Memorial Cup. It was infinitely worse than a dude in a Turkey Costume.
By that definition, the Gooker should be a who's who of all the trash in wrestling. Where is Bill Demott's Gooker? Were is Ian Rotten's? Where is the Lugar/Liz Drug Shitshow Gooker?


Some comedy award now, right? But alas, why do I even try to argue this. It's lost and I know I'm wasting my time.

But yeah, as of now it looks like NXT 2.0 and the mass firings are pretty clearly ahead in the early going. And 2.0 is another "let it play out and see where it goes" example. It is ongoing. Who knows? It might improve some day. I do like some things about it actually, even if it isn't the Smark Darling original (actually second version) NXT.

But...again, the IWC gotta vent, don't they?

I shouldn't be so invested in this, but f**k right off with nominating NXT 2.0. I could see the first reboot episode nominated given WC's history of inducting awkward first episodes, but the entire brand? Nah, not here for it.

I also think there should've been a more specific Cody nomination. The nominations as a whole feel Razzie levels of lazy.

Put me as someone that doesn’t really consider really awful stuff or stuff that hasn’t concluded yet things that should be part of Gooker voting. Like, the cuts f***ing suck but not really in the spirit of the thing.

f*** them for even nominating the Karate Man match. Super tonedeaf of the site, it's like when people 20 years ago would mock the existence of Wrestlecrap as a website itself.

And yeah, both the real life stuff and the needless over-generalization (the Cody shit, like *all* of it? It's like that year "Everything The Miz" was nominated) really miss the mark. And the Becky-Bianca match, that's more "bad booking" than Wrestlecrap. Just nominate "bad wrestling" at that point.

Here's what they missed:

- Eva Marie / Doudrop

- The abomination that was "Legends Night" (booking every legend to look like goofs and Goldberg getting angry at Drew McIntyre for something he didn't say)

- Karrion Kross going from harbinger of the apocalypse to Bible-shirt MMA guy for no reason.

- Keith "Bearcat" Lee

- The disbanding of Retribution

- (if we're going to go real world implications) the exploitive and awful 9/11 Smackdown

- RIC FLAIR "IMPREGNANTING" LACEY EVANS (sort of, not really, but they were going to go to Wrestlemania with this shit)

- John Morrison's "drip drip" being misinterpretated and transformed into literal water-obsessed guy

- The Reginald-Nia-Shayna saga that ultimately went nowhere

- The weird Mysterios Video entrance at Money in the Back 2021 that was used once and never seen again

- The Demon flapping on the ground vs Roman Reigns

- Bobby Lashley wants to murder Goldberg's children

- The fall of Top Dolla / Hit Row

- A&E's Randy Savage documentary (given this was a WWE co-production meant as a promotional vehicle for the company, I'd say it counts)

- NWA running with Tyrus as a belt-holder during their relaunch

NXT 2.0 at least has a chance to be funny and you can make it a lot more about the fall of Triple H's Personal Super-Indy format and the transition to the current FCW ReBirth format along with the nosedive in ratings as opposed to just the ongoing show. There's amusing irony in the show specifically targeting a younger audience gets the oldest audience of any wrestling show.

WWE Mass Firings is just going to be miserable if it wins.

If the results hold, I will never feel such strong discontent with a gooker winner. NXT 2.0 is not Wrestlecrap. IMO, this just reflects bitterness. NXT Black and Gold was broken. It wasn't the same as it was at it's height. Is 2.0 as a good as pre-pandemic, especially 2014-2018 Black and Gold? Of course not. But I can't blame WWE for going in a new direction especially when more and more call ups were proving not to be great fits for the main roster. And nothing about 2.0 seems inherently crappy. Just different.

For what it's worth, I voted for the movie tie ins. That's more in the spirit of Wrestlecrap, although I wouldn't complain if the mass firings won.

Yeah, including the firings is stupid. NXT 2.0 I probably wouldn't call the worst thing of the year in terms of booking alone, probably go Cody / Ogogo or Alexa / Orton / Fiend for that, but I do think it's a suitable winner if you're talking the likely longterm damage of it.

And I know it has its fans but really most 2.0 episodes I've watched have been two long, boring hours of flipping the viewer off and telling them they were wrong to like things so now enjoy your three minute matches and constant PG sex.

I went for NXT 2.0 just because Mass Firings was in the lead at the time and that's the last one that I want to see win since there's no humor to be had with that choice.

The one that I feel should be the winner is Alexa/Fiend/Lily, since that one is the closest to what Wrestlecrap is supposed to be.
