Like he said, wins and losses don't matter, just views.

Why does it matter if the story is decent enough, it's giving AJ something to do and helping launch a new career in Waller?

WWE in its current state couldn't build a Lego tractor, much less build a star.

It just really confuses me that you had guys like Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish in NXT for YEARS. YEARS. And now's the time you start a cross-promotional angle with AJ Styles and it's somebody who's barely ready for NXT? It infuriates me. If they were going to try and use a young guy in this role, go with Carmelo Hayes or just bring up Santos Escobar already. Grayson's not ready.

I agree, generally, but even if they do want to go with Grayson, who does at least have some things going for him... they need to build to it. Get him some wins, put some momentum behind him, and then do the match. I'm sure working with AJ will likely give him some valuable experience, but the story is lacking in a big way.

Man, I'm all for AJ being in great storylines and launching the careers of new talent. I just want the guy he's facing to be legit and right now I'm not seeing it with Waller's record. Now, put AJ with HBK's protege Carmelo Hayes? That just makes WAYYYYYY more sense. If it's just an easy thing for AJ to do before Hayes then cool but yeah. Like, Hayes got the credentials.

and he's facing AJ Styles. Anybody else laugh reading the thread title? That win rate is gonna increase, presumably because he's beating AJ.

Yeah, he went from being weird cruiserweight job guy to Ethan Page-lite in a week without any real momentum shift. Beating up Gargano's not enough for me to take him seriously against AJ.

The weird thing to me is how he's yet to actually have a match since the big angle with Gargano. Now would be the time where he starts stringing some wins together so, by the time he actually has the match with Styles, he's got a little bit of something behind him other than "was on a team that won WarGames but didn't get the fall". But, as it is, his next match will be the first of this monster heel run.
Also, today I learned that a non-televised on-sale event for WrestleMania tickets is more worthy of being counted for win/loss records than the actually broadcasted 205 Live, where he's gotten a lot of wins (I have his TV record at 7-12-0). Maybe he should've dumped someone on their head, maybe then it'd have gotten some attention.

It’s such a weird thing because you would thought that you’d want to make a guy credible and have the commentators go “Who can stop the role this guy’s been on?” before the AJ match but they gave Kyle’s last match to Von Wagner and that seems to already be wasted so why not have Kyle feud with Grayson, Waller beats him, does the whole “Indies are worthless” speel and have AJ go down to teach the kid some respect? It’s easy to establish.

Stunt booking AJ Styles onto NXT for a ratings bump but then putting him in with a greenhorn instead of someone he can have a banger match with is the most NXT 2.0 thing I've ever heard.

Since when has WWE cares about win/loss ration except for a couple of VERY specific talents?

He's lucky AJ wouldn't stop talking about the "wins and losses don't matter" promo even when it didn't make any sense to talk about it last week lmao.

I should note at this point that Waller has got experience from a few years on the Australian indies, so he’s not some ham-and-egger they’ve dragged in off the street that wanted to do football until WWE flashed a shiny cheque in their face and still hasn’t been told the difference between a wristlock and a wristwatch. (Dude actually has a recorded victory over Orange Cassidy of all people in his previous home indie here in Australia)

It’s not like he’s one of the new guys who’s only been wrestling for a year. Sending up Trick Williams, or Van Wafer, or even Tony D’Angelo would be guys who aren’t ready yet. He’s obnoxious as hell, his old face character was abysmal, but he’s proven to be pretty talented as a wrestler when given matches. Like the random banger with Ciampa.
