"Big" is relative but I always expected Velvet Crush to have a string of alt-rock radio hits. They were sort of a better version of Better Than Ezra, but they never had anything more than a very small cult following.

The Darkness Thought they’d last longer than they did anyways I think it was more of their first big hit was so big it wore out it's welcome... then the drugs... Got back together in 2011, still together, latest album came out in November-ish. This is from their 2019 album...

I know it's a forum meme, and she's been trucking on, but I have kind of expected Tinashe to blow up more than she has as of yet. It's not like she's a nobody or anything, but still. Something something big get. I still have no idea who this woman is and I saw her sing at Mania. The reason it became a forum meme is because maybe, just maybe, her singing a song for WrestleMania was oversold somewhere between a little and a lot. The OP basically tried to argue her singing the national anthem would lead to a new boom period for WWE because she was such a giant star, non-fans would pour in to see the national anthem. And I know that OP is still here and posts regularly, so please, yell at me in Messages all you wish, I don't mind.

I just mean she is one of those people who I can see why someone would have thought she was on the cusp of big things since she's one of those people who looked set to take off. She just hasn't on that level. Maybe she hasn't had the right song to cross over or what, but yeah, I'm not surprised you haven't really seen her elsewhere. It just hasn't happened for her in the way some people thought it would.

I've never messaged you dude (and to insinuate I have regarding this is really uncalled for) and I said nothing in the original thread near her leading to a "new boom period." The point of that thread was because she was coming off of a very hot SXSW performance and the WWE, who this forum has (often rightfully) given shit for either booking way past their prime acts and genres had someone who was buzzed about in the moment. I stay quiet about it, I can accept that it's a forum meme, but I don't appreciate it. I don't even acknowledge it when it pops up because I get it that these things become running jokes and at some point the joke becomes on each and every one of us. What I take issue with is how your wording here is deliberately antagonistic and suggesting I'd harass someone on a messageboard forum when I have never, ever done anything of the sort.

I was 100% all in on Semisonic, I love LOVE their follow up album 'All About Chemistry' and I felt they would become like the next huge all time classic band, however it did work out for them in the end, writing Adele albums and writing Daft Punk albums means their founder Dan Wilson has talent for songwriting, just sad it couldnt keep Semisonic afloat.

Helmet-Wait did they even have a hit? I remember Unsung and at least one other song off that album getting lots of radio play.
Bad Religion-Was shocked when I heard Infected on the radio. Maybe the band name and logo kept them from breaking thru.
RedHair-Still the best band to come out of Jackson County MS. But Brad and the assholes in 3 Doors Down hit it big with their crap music instead.

I thought Vertical Horizon would've been putting out albums consistently. Everything You Want, You're a God, & Best I Ever Had were their three biggest hits but they were only as big as that one album that comprised of those singles.

There were a few bands from that little early/mid nineties wave of alternative power pop that probably had the capability of being more than just a cult band with maybe one radio hit. The Gigolo Aunts spring to mind, who I think are now largely known for being on the soundtrack to Dumb & Dumber.

Jeff Jarrett.
Also 3 colours red should have been bigger than they got. They were great.

But didn't reach the heights you thought they would? I remember thinking La Roux was going to be huge around the time "Bulletproof" was all over the radio. It didn't really pan out that way though. Literally one of if not my favorite artist but absolutely true. Love all three of her albums, but, yeah. I thought Karmin would be a success. Thought Juvenile would be bigger. Kevin Rudolph is another. I think Karmin's issues were equal parts poor label handling and Amy Noonan wanting to try something else. Their shift to Qveen Herby is pretty dang good. I kind of think in general, a lot of these examples are going to be label mishandling. The music industry has plenty of bullshit like this.

I read a recent interview about John Newman detailing a bout with depression over some time, who I felt was gonna blow up bigger after “Love Me Again” got some airplay.

Fountains of Wayne. When I heard Alien for Christmas in the 90s, I became an instant fan and was thrilled when they came close to the mainstream with tracks from Welcome Interstate Drivers, but it didn't last for various reasons and Adam died from Covid so now there's no chance of a revival. I was super disappointed when I gushed about Fountains of Wayne to an american friend who was intoi music, expecting them to have been a big deal, only for them to ask who?, then confuse them with the Barenaked Ladies.

Steven Duffy. Former lead singer of Duran Duran before they made it big, he had a hit in the early 80s then slipped into being an indie darling with acts like The Lilac Time, someone who always seemed to be on the cusp of mainstream recognition for nearly all of my life now, but it's never happened for him. Even co-writing songs for the Barenaked Ladies breakthrough album and Robbie Williams hasn't been enough.

Jeff Jarrett. Also 3 colours red should have been bigger than they got. They were great. Of a similar vintage, Symposium. They're a band I've long imagined to be more famous than they actually were at the time because they popped up on stuff like The Chart Show and Top Of The Pops.
