Bob Backlund in 2000 just for JR's reaction. "What the hell is Bob Backlund doing here?" “Isn’t he running for Senator?!”

The absolute best ones have already been mentioned but here's a good one that hasn't:
Big Show in 2001.

The best thing about that return was that not a single person called it. Nobody leaked it, nobody predicted it, I didn’t see a single story speculating about it. He just…appeared. And considering the end of his first WWE run involved him being super bulky and not quite moving the way he wanted to, he came in looking fantastic.

It was a nice redemption too, given he got shit on by the live crowd that one year simply for not being Daniel Bryan at #30.

Has to be Cena I guess. Nobody saw that coming. And this was Cena’s first real injury I think so his powers of recovery had yet to be displayed!

I liked Snuka and Piper in 2008 at the Garden, especially how everyone in the ring just stopped when Piper’s music hit.

2000 - Bob Backlund. Huge surprise. The roar of the crowd when they realise who it is always warms my heart. 2001 - Haku. I marked out. The crowd didn't. Also, Channel 4 viewers will remember "3..2..1... Well, it's the Big" ADVERT BREAK 2008 - Cena is obviously, but also, Roddy fn Piper hadn't been involved in wrestling through 2007 because of his cancer and this was his way of telling the world he was doing better. 2009 - RVD - legit caught us by surprise. 2016 - AJ of course. But also Sami Zayns return as the Ghost of Kevin Owen's Past. 2018 - Rey showing up, Rey showing up moving faster than he had in a decade. Andrade too. 2020 - Edge 2021 - Genuinely I'd heard nothing about Christian returning.

2021 - Genuinely I'd heard nothing about Christian returning. I did hear about Christian and I was excited for if he would actually show up. The fact it felt like he didn’t lose a beat made it even better. I really do like him in AEW but also, No, seriously, why didn’t WWE sign the f***er after that? I’m baffled by the whole thing.

Especially since it would have happened 20 years since their breakup!

Even though the director fluffed the shot, AJ Styles debuting was an amazing moment.

Haku as he had just been in WCW (maybe seen the week before?) and thusly I didn't see it coming. Not just seen in WCW, the week before he won the WCW Hardcore Championship.

Nash coming out as Diesel was a childhood dream come true. The reaction he got was incredible. Diesel and Booker T coming back that Rumble might be my favorites.

Bubba Ray Dudley was cool since that was his only rumble match appearance.

It’s a toss up between Edge and Cena 08. With Edge there were rumblings (put totally intended) that he’d be making his return but I’ll be damned if I didn’t tear up a bit when that music hit and he walked out on the stage. Cena 08 was a huge surprise. Dude was supposed to be out at least another 4-6 months. That was the night we learned Cena was truly not human. Love him or hate him that was an all time Rumble moment. Triple H’s reaction told the whole story.
