Inspired by an old post I was reading about Tatanka.

There’s footage of Kerry Von Erich trying to be a cocky heel floating around and it may be the clumsiest promo ever recorded in the history of the business. He makes Jumping Jeff Farmer sound like late 80s Macho Man.

Tatanka's not a bad call. I think being heel just made his weaknesses more glaring, and his strengths dulled.
Rey wasn't trash or anything as a heel, exactly, but he's a much more natural face. There's a reason he's almost always a face, and kind of unremarkable as a heel.

Goldberg.
His heel WCW run sucked. Of course, you could tell his heart couldnt have been less into it, but still.

Sting has always been awful as a heel. Ditto Goldberg.

Sting Jim Duggan Rey Mysterio Jeff Hardy Eugene Shotzi Ruby Soho Molly Holly Naomi Miss Elizabeth
All of the above are natural babyfaces that should never ever have worked heel, they all are so likeable and rootable for and it was painful to see them play heels as they just didn't suit them. Like how Ric Flair,Ted Dibiase,Mr Mcmahon and Charlotte should always be heels for life.

Ricky Steamboat was such a bad heel that nobody ever even let him do it.

Rikishi, although the randomness of the booking really didn't help his cause from the get go.

Ricky Steamboat was such a bad heel that nobody ever even let him do it. I've never really bought this premise, and it's unfalsifiable on its surface. Supposedly Steamboat did a great job of doing heel mannerisms when he did a seminar for ROH in its early days. He's a guy who would have had to have been a babyface first and turned, but I think he could have done it in the right setting. This is a bit of a hot-take response, but Rick Martel. No, don't try to convince me that The Model was great heel work. At its peak, it was mediocre heel work and far inferior to his work as a babyface.

Sting never really worked as a heel. Even as a part of the Main Event Mafia, he came off as more reluctant than embracing villainy like Kurt Angle and them boys.

I admittedly watched very little of TNA once the old guard came in but wasn't he a heel as the Joker Sting? Or was it played more along the lines of the Broken style where the fans were "in on it too"...Unfortunately my issue with alot of heels now a days.

Tatanka (Buffalo) definitely. Ricky Morton too. And both are the same. Had to portray corporate sellouts, but didn't bother to change their images.
Sivi Afi for the ONE week he was made an Islander. Even slapped hands with fans when he was introduced.
As far as Sting being a bad heel, how was he when he was a Blade Runner?

The easiest example is Sting. Like Steamboat, nobody believes this guy is a bad man.
WWE wise, Naomi is the one where her heel work is pretty much just her, but angry. Which still works better as a babyface.
AEW example? Funny enough, Brandi Rhodes. She's a terrible heel, despite the fact that the fans don't like her in general right now. Worked way better as Face Cody's manager.
Rey is the lucha example, also Atlantis.
Japan? Mayu Iwatani. She's a dork. Everyone knows it, and that's part of what makes her awesome.

I'm going to have to go with Rikishi. He was a terrible heel. It felt super rushed and very forced. He also didn't do anything to make him seem like a legitimate threat. Val Venis was another one who was great as a face, but in 2000, he waffled between being a face and a heel before joining RTC in September. He was a face and obtained the services of Trish Stratus and then turned heel during his feud with Rikishi, before abandoning Trish as his valet. He then turned back into a face again before he was kidnapped by the RTC, who stole away with him in a van and turned full on heel when he joined the RTC. I also didn't too much care for Guerrero as a heel, either, because all he did was cry, plead, beg, and talk trash to Chyna.

Joker Sting was 100% a face, he just did weird things like taking Eric Bischoff hostage with a bird.

Ryback Rikishi Drew McIntyre
All of these were terrible heels IMO. So much better as faces.

As far as Sting being a bad heel, how was he when he was a Blade Runner? Sting was just very green as a blade runner. Was the big musclehead heel.
