They messed with him way too much.
Look at Survivor Series 2019 and The Royal Rumble where he faced off against Brock.
He got a massive pop. The crowd were mad into him vs Roman at Survivor Series that year.
Then he debuted on the main roster... Generic theme, fat shirt singlet, baggy shorts... And that's not counting the whole "Bearcat" garbage. What were they thinking?

I feel like the issue Vince had with keith was never the body. But Keith personality and wrestling style is not what Vince wants from a big guy. You really gonna go and want Keith lee to be Generic Angry Big Guy. And Keith is way too nice for Vince. As everything, Vince has a mold for someone like him and he didnt fit the mold Yep. Keith Lee is more of a relatable Dusty Rhodes "ordinary guy" than a big angry guy like Bam Bam Bigelow for example. I can't believe they f***ed him up man. He is probably the easiest guy to write for.

There were certainly big communication problems between Lee and the company during his illness, might have to wait a few years before he is comfortable enough/able to give his side but going to be interesting to find out what went on during those months of vague tweeting.

Can't say I heard Becky's appearance on Austin's show, but just reading that gave me a flash of something that often irks me about WWE's booking: that whole "what makes you stand out?" thing isn't a bad thing to ask a wrestler, per se, but in WWE it feels so much more like "What's one distinctive gimmicky thing about you that we can drive into the ground?" rather than "what makes you a compelling character that interesting stories can be developed around and whom fans can really grow attached to?" They have almost no interest in the latter.
