Having worked in many service industry positions I do my best to be polite and understanding to anyone working one of those jobs. I am that person saying please, thank you, sir and ma'am at the drive thru. Walking across the store to put something I dont want back in its proper spot, or if I cannot for some reason giving to the cashier to have reshopped.
But lately I have become fed up with scam calls. The ones that want your info to steal your identity or get your credit card. At first I tried to be sympathetic as they are most likely a person in an impoverished area needing any kind of work. But its too regular and too much now. So when they call now I will take out any frustration or anger I have on them. No matter how poor they are they are still criminals.

When someone is disrespectful to me first.
I try to be nice, but if you are either a jerk to me or some type of bigot, I stop caring about your feelings.

Having worked as a cold caller - avoid answering if you can.
Whether you are polite or abusive, if you answer, you stay on the database your number came from. Even if that company takes you off at your request, you will still be on the list you came from.
If you don't answer, you have a chance of getting marked as a cold lead and removed from the central list.

I’m super passive aggressive, so I’m the sorta guy who will give an over the top “you’re welcome” when I hold the door or something and they don’t say thanks. Or “don’t worry I got it!” If someone lets a door slam in my face. I have no tolerance for a lack of basic manners.

Telling obvious scammers off isn't rude IMO.
Only time I ever get mad is when places refuse to refund me for something that's their fault like defective or missing merchandise. Thankfully that's incredibly rare.

I work in a government office that has tons of pubic calls (bitching about roads) where all calls are recorded. I have (actually written in the contract) the right to hang up on any caller that swears at me. I don't care if you cuss about road conditions or whatever, but the second you make it personal the call is over.
My line to end the calls is "This conversation is over, goodbye" and I hang up. I get all kinds of wacky emails, calls and threats for doing that. People make up all sorts of shit. "OMG VAL IS SO RUDE I WAS JUST CALLING TO POLITELY INFORM HIM ABOUT A POTHOLE AND HE HUNG UP ON ME! FIRE HIM!" Then I sit in front of my Board and bust out the recording where they call my mother a whore and ask how many dicks I sucked to get my job. I especially love this new response (first one was about a year ago): "THAT CALL IS FAKE THAT'S NOT ME". Yes, I put days of effort into making fake calls and I spoof your number oh and by the way you are the one that arranged this time to complain about me in front of The Board so you are acknowledging you made the call.
So yeah, a good chunk of the population thinks I'm the rudest asshole around because they can't verbally assault me. I'm ok with that. I doubt I'm missing out on many meaningful relationships with that type of person.
Long story short: I get called rude often at work.

All the time but without realising, which is annoying.
Eg. I hate phony rapport at start of a phone call with someone you don't know and aren't sure the exact purpose of it, feels like a sleazy sales tactic. Much more natural to get to the point and then any relationship building as you go or at the end. Apparently this is wrong.

This will make me sound worse than it really is, but I'm pretty anti-social when I'm out and about and it doesn't take too much to aggravate me. I'm pretty much an asshole but I like to think I use my asshole-ish ways for the power of good, instead of trying to bring people down with it, you know?
People who insult my intelligence and are condescending will get a less than polite (and likely a passive aggressive) response. An example being a fair few years ago, the band I was in at the time was playing a hometown gig. The singer from the other band stood obviously had an ego, you could tell as soon as he walked into the room. He must've stood there talking at me for a good ten minutes, not letting me get in any words so I stood there nodding with an unimpressed face. He proceeding to explain how much work goes into being in a band, the process of writing songs, how to use the amps that was stood on the stage and even how to tune a guitar. His face was a picture when a few minutes later I went up onto that stage to soundcheck. The word we used to describe him would get me an instant battering with the BanHammer if I repeated it here.

Even if that company takes you off at your request, you will still be on the list you came from. If you don't answer, you have a chance of getting marked as a cold lead and removed from the central list. Speaking as someone who works at a call center I can attest to hearing concerns about being scammed and on top of dropping cold leads it is our policy to put anyone who says “stop calling me you assholes” on a DNC list. I have experience from “the other side” of angry callers for various reasons, so we’re taught in training to expect to be swore at and accused of all sorts of stuff- we have to be patient and polite and not let the customer rattle us. Some of our offers are prepayment only, and we’re required to make sure any card info is removed when subscriptions stop. I’ve seen newbies who can’t deal with the pressure and start freaking and yelling at other co/workers out of frustration, it can be tough. So when I get cold calls at home I tend to reply with a firm but formal “please don’t contact this number anymore, sir/ma’am” and leave it at that because I can relate.

I don't like being approached by People on the Streets, whether it be a Chugger, People trying to sell their Rap CD's, Someone asking for Change.
Good intentions or not, I normally give that "Get the f*** away from me look" and just walk on.

Intentionally? Almost never. Even if someone is rude to me it takes a little while to process that they were rude, and by then it's way too late for a comeback. I have to seriously be pushed into a corner to lash out.
