Got this idea from the WWF Confidential thread.
Who still has their VHS tapes and what kind of stuff did you fill them with when you were an impressionable lad/lass?
I got like 5, mostly WCW Nitro with some odd Raw clips, and it's clear from my recording habits that I believed I was going to be revisiting Vampiro and KISS Demon footage on a regular basis.
Everything/anything with Sid earned a press of the record button.
Brood entrances but not the matches.
If anyone jumped ship, I always recorded the first time I saw them, whether it was the Radicalz in the WWF or Brian Adams in WCW, and then every Brian Adams match after the fact just because the novelty of Brian Adams in WCW was awe-inducing.
The beginnings of Hollywood Hogan's babyface turn, where he was still Hollywood but started hulking up again, then everything with him back in the red and yellow.
Some of those Nitro main events in '99-ish were jaw droppers, e.g. Hogan/Goldberg/Sting against Nash/Sid/Bret or some similar configuration.

When I was heavy into tape trading in the mid to late 90s I would make 2 to 6 hour long tapes full of what I thought was the best CMLL and AAA matches I had.
For a buddy, since he would jokingly make fun of me for being a big Funaki fan,a 2 hour tape of nothing but Funaki matches.

During the 90s, I actually didn't record much wrestling. I really regret that! Of the wrestling I did record in the 90s, I mainly recorded WWF stuff (since I though they might go out of business; WCW was so awesome back then and WWF just sucked). I did record the Bret Hart "This is bulls***!" match randomly. I recorded a WCW Clash Of The Champions show, and the final Monday Nitro & Worldwide shows. I definitely wish I recorded more WCW, GWF, and ECW shows.
In the 2000s, I mainly recorded CMLL, AAA, TNA, random WWE stuff, and any other wrestling matches/shows I could find. I have about 20 to 40 6 hour tapes that I want to transfer to digital files. They are all unlabeled, too!

Nitro Girl segments juxtaposed with the finishes of Japanese death matches.

If it wasn't for my basement flooding I had a bunch of VHS tapes I made from ages 8 to 10 that had All Star Wrestling from Vancouver, WWF Superstars, Cavelcade, Maple Leaf Wrestling and Saturday Nights Main Event.
All gone cuz some idiot (not me lol) flushed paper towels down a toilet in the basement which caused a flood and I still had the tapes in a box from my move in.

We had a video store right around the corner from our apartment building in New York and my dad used to rent all of the WWF VHS tapes and then dub them onto other tapes for me. You remember those sticker vending machines that were always at the front of grocery stores with the candy machines? He would buy the letter sticker sheets from them and meticulously label videos for me even though I couldn't even read yet.
One of the funnier ones is the tape that says "Best of the WWF 9, 10, 11, 12" because it's actually the Andre, Steamboat, Grudge Matches, and Unusual Matches tapes. He made the label for the tape and then for whatever reason our local video store never got 9, 10, 11, or 13 in. So he just used that tape for those 4. Volume 12 eventually popped up, it wound up on a tape after Wrestlemania 3. Then 14-17 are on another tape. Then he started one for 18-22 but the series stopped at 20. we never got 19 or 20 so for years that tape only had volume 18 on it. come to think of it, I don't think I ever put anything else on it.

My mom dubbed VHS rentals for me too. One summer it was Royal Rumble '89 and '91 back to back every night because I had them on the same tape. Just the Rumble matches, not the rest of the card.

I mostly just had entire shows.
But way later than the prime of VHS I did tape stuff from the wrestling channel, a best of X division compilation, Punk Vs Joe in RoH, maybe some Noah. I should see if I still have that.

I just found a box in the basement labeled “rasslin”. Opened to discover an old Macho Man bandana amongst around 20 non labeled vhs cassettes. I’ve watched a couple so far and one was three old school Saturday nights main events. The second was some random NWA from back then too. I have the SNME dvd set but seeing these shows in their old grainy glory really took me back

I pretty much recorded the entirety of the Monday Night Wars, but I wish I would have recorded more of the shows like All-American Wrestling and WWF Mania, since they're now much harder to find.

I made a Taz ECW compilation tape based on episodes of ECW tv broadcast from WGTW in Lancaster, PA that we somehow got OTA signal for where I lived.

So as a kid and a teenager if I was going to miss a weekly wrestling TV show, I would tape them, usually in SP because they usually weren't very long. Then when a PPV would air, I would recycle the tape for it, usually doing it in LP or EP since they were longer. This would result in me having a lot of PPV's on tape, but after the PPV's were over having just random ass television matches in higher quality at the end of the tape. One day I decided to transfer those matches (the relatively important ones anyways, not the squash matches) to an eight-hour tape of their own.
The tape includes - - Shawn Michaels vs. Shinobi - Johnny B. Badd vs. Chris Benoit - Virgil vs. Repo-Man - Brian Pillman vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger from Superbrawl II (no idea how I wound up with this match on tape in the first place, I never taped WCW PPV's back then) - The Texas Tornado vs. Rick Martel from Madison Square Garden - Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter vs. The Beverly Brothers - Bob Holly vs. Tiger Ali Singh - Marty Jannetty vs. Irwin R. Shyster - Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna from that Survivor Series 1993 preview show - The Giant vs. Rick Fuller from the night Princess Diana died - Al Snow vs. Shane Douglas from ECW TV - Rob Van Dam vs. Tommy Dreamer (I think from the same show) - The American Males vs. The Shawk and Maxx Muscle from the Slamboree 96 pre-show - Chris Jericho vs. Pitbull 2 - Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee Weapons Match - Mankind vs. Alex Pourteau (from 1996, commentary actually mentions Kurt Angle visiting WWF offices that week) - Shawn Michaels vs. Goldust from RAW Championship Friday - Demolition vs. The Brain Busters from Saturday Night's Main Event - Flash Funk vs. The Sultan from an In Your House pre-show - And, for reasons I don't completely fathom, an episode of Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher

We never rented VHS's growing up. Even if we did, no local place had wrestling tapes. I used to tape certain things off of TV, like Clashes, but I always had to record over them because I pretty much only had, like, two tapes. So when I first got introduced to the dial up internet in the late 90's thanks to a handy dandy WebTV (remember those, kids?), I started ordering all kinds of stuff from Ebay. The good days of ebay, back when it was a little more wild, wild west, and not just another retail site that it is now. I ordered all kinds of stuff, from best of ECW 1998 compilations, matches of obscure title changes (think WCW six-man titles, Western States Heritage title matches, etc.), to best of matches where shoot incidents happen in matches (of course that includes Mass Transit). It was great finding these wild mix-tapes of random stuff.

Anyone else here ever instruct their Mom by telephone to start a VHS recording for them? Mom was quite helpful in keeping me on the go, LOL
