Celebrity matches at Mania tend to be good and/or entertaining. Mr. T, LT, Mayweather, Bad Bunny. Have there been any celebrity matches at Mania that have stunk the joint out? (not counting Akebono as a celebrity!) Matches with actual wrestlers could be good or entertaining too, though. Why put an untrained risk in the ring when you can give the space to someone who's been working hard all year and deserves the payday? As much as I hate the guy, Logan Paul's role last year was pretty well done. Be ringside, and then send the crowd home happy by getting your ass kicked. I'd rather that than see him teaming with Miz. Because "wrestling at WrestleMania" is going to get WWE more headlines and potential buys from Logan Paul fans than "he's appearing at Wrestlemania."

Part of the novelty of WrestleMania is the celebrity aspect of it. To the extent you actually have these names in matches as opposed to ringside, there’s added novelty/buzz/intrigue.

I'm not American so I typically see zero news about celebrities in wrestling, regardless of what they're doing. But, if mainstream US outlets are giving TV time and website headlines to WWE because celebrities are wrestling instead of just appearing, then I take the point. It's not going to change my opinion about what I want from wrestling, but I learned a long time ago that WWE doesn't cater to me, my tastes, or what I think is best for its wrestlers.

It is going to be McAfee v. Theory. I would put money on it. Hope you didn't put much money on it...
Put my life savings on it. Paid off

A lot of reporters really showed their ass on this one. Even all of us regular old fans seemed to know that Vince was probably just going to be in someone's corner at best and not actually wrestling but so many doubled down on their reports that he would be in a match.
You have to wonder if it's the same with Austin. Maybe he's scheduled to appear and dish out a stunner but someone heard "Austin is going to be at Wrestlemania", jumped the gun and turned it into "Austin is going to have an actual match."

I don’t find it hard to believe that McAfee vs. Vince was on the books and they changed their mind. It was also reported out of nowhere with no hints of a match, so clearly they heard insider info of some sort. And I don’t think Austin was reported to definitely be wrestling a match just that they were trying to get him to and that he had a ring sent to him. There are definitely bad reporters out there (usually our banned sources) but I don’t see either of these as egregious.

Announcing Vince is going to be on a podcast, the same one Brock was on a few weeks ago, didn’t point to a match (to me, at least).

I don't doubt that a source in WWE told various reporters that it was happening. But that person was clearly wrong and/or lying. It's more a tale of not believing everything that is reported, rather than saying Meltzer or whoever are just idly making shit up.

The way Vince seemingly changes his mind day to day, I wouldn’t say they were clearly wrong and/or lying when they said it. I wouldn’t even rule out that it changes back to Vince in the weeks to come.

I understand the instinct to jump to, "they made it up from scratch for clicks", but unless someone's the absolute bottom of the barrel in wrestling newz, that would never, ever be worth it. Conclusions get jumped to sometimes, but more often, their sourced present what they've heard. Ideas get floated all the time that never come to fruition in the most stable of times, much less the kind of mercurial nature Vince has taken over time where he changes his mind the day constantly.
Austin Theory always struck me as the more likely candidate, but Vince still thinks he's this hulking badass that can just smack people on camera on a regular basis and we're supposed to think, "WHAT A GUY!", so a "match" could have been as simple as a dick kick and some tomfoolery. Unlikely, but far from impossible.
