The Raw women's triple-threat had some fun sequences: Also of note given the story on Smackdown last night is that Charlotte tapped to Ronda in the tag match.
I know it's only a house show but that's surprising that they had Charlotte do the job to Ronda just a month away from their Wrestlemania main event. Especially with Sonya, who has already been squashed by Ronda a few times anyways, right there. As for the Brock/Theory thing I think it would've been fine if they had advertised it in advance and put on say more in the middle of the card like right before intermission sort of like they used to do with Hogan back in the day. Just a harmless fun squash with Brock beating up on this goof ball heel. However having it be a surprise and making it main event? Don't get it.

So apparently a fan s*** their pants literally while the WWE did so metaphorically.
Well, at least the two are in sync.

WWE could have thrown a little money one of the many awesome free agents working right now and it would have been acceptable. Imagine the pop if the mystery opponent would have been, for example, Matt Cardona. Even if he got squashed in a minute or two, it’s a New York guy doing the promotion-hopping, belt-collecting thing. But, nah, just Austin Theory. Ffs Why would Matt Cardona risk all of his current credibility to get killed by Lesnar? Same goes for anybody hot on the indies. Why would WWE debut CODY in that spot and job him to Lesnar? SRS said they were being secretive but that there could be nothing to it. A banned source made it seem like more. Yes, WWE said Lesnar was going to defend the belt, but I don’t think they’re in the wrong here, TBH. It’s how you promote a house show? would I have gone with like KO or Edge? Maybe. But Theory is also somebody that can take a beating without losing credibility. WWE obviously has a larger problem here in that they can’t sell out the Garden anymore. That’s definitely bad. But I think this wasn’t totally on them.

I'm not mad, or even really disappointed. It's just kind of funny in a case of, "Why even do that, then?"
Omos would have honestly been what I'd have picked. It'd still be a short, nothing match, but it'd have a novelty to it. It also would feel a bit appropriate in terms of "this territory has always favored big dudes" kind of way.

I’ve said this before, but what I think some folks still need to realize is that WWE could’ve built a time machine and brought in 1997 Steve Austin to face Brock and it still wouldn’t have mattered much, because WWE’s entire booking style is that “nothing that happens actually matters.”
Like, pretend my insane, sci-fi fueled hypothetical above was real: people would give a nuclear pop the second the glass shattered and we’d get tons of YouTube reaction videos of people wanting you to see their faces when younger Austin stepped out of KUSHIDA’s customized DeLorean, and younger Austin and Brock would probably have a really good standalone match, but two nights later you’d put Raw on and see the exact same show they’ve been putting on for years and years now, just with this random younger Steve Austin walking around.
You’d have “The Moment”, which is all WWE really cares about, you’d even get a match that’s well laid out and technically proficient, but it’d all count for next to nothing by the next show because Vince McMahon is still the head of booking and this is just what he does.

I thought it was going to be Jey Uso iniitally and figured it would end with a beatdown for them to air on Raw.
I think they were just hyping it up for ticket sales and nothing more.

Simple, to sell extra tickets and get people talking. However fans expected more than they ever should have expected to begin with. I mean while hyped and MSG its still a house show. If anybody expected a big surprise to face Brock, knowing that person wasn't going to win, they played themselves really.

But it was clearly a ticket sales push. And it seemed to work as I remember they had about 5K tickets sold a week or two ago and they were over 8K as of yesterday afternoon.

So it was nothing? Sounds about right. Felt like a lame "hey tune into Raw tonight for a special announcement" thing that I glad I wasn't keeping up on lol.

Dave Meltzer’s reaction to this show is basically they pulled out a gun and shot the NYC market in the head. They won’t draw here for a long time

They won’t draw here for a long time He did say their hope is enough people will forget about this the next time they come to MSG. Which might have some credence but I think they definitely turned off some fans for future live shows. At the very least, they hurt their ability to use these tricks in the future.

WWE really done goofed by not having VEER arrive against Beastie Boy. That would have been worthy of MSG.

Dave Meltzer’s reaction to this show is basically they pulled out a gun and shot the NYC market in the head. They won’t draw here for a long time From what I heard, he did say WWE never alluded to Cody being the opponent and that all came from fans. However his big point was that WWE really were pushing a surprise and in the last couple days people within WWE were hyping MSG to people outside as being a big time show and they follow up with... Austin Theory. Like between this and a few other things it feels like WWE has just been assuming things will be all booked for Mania without having things locked up (alluding to Cody a lot, Austin not agreeing to a match yet)
