Dave Meltzer’s reaction to this show is basically they pulled out a gun and shot the NYC market in the head. They won’t draw here for a long time From what I heard, he did say WWE never alluded to Cody being the opponent and that all came from fans. However his big point was that WWE really were pushing a surprise and in the last couple days people within WWE were hyping MSG to people outside as being a big time show and they follow up with... Austin Theory. Yeah, as I said earlier I didn't expect Cody. But I expected SOMETHING. They did hype it as alluding to a big match, even if you go by "suitable replacement". In no universe is Austin Theory a suitable replacement for Bobby Lashley. Just about every time the WWE has been given the benefit of the doubt on things they haven't delivered on it, which is a big reason a lot of people just don't care about anything.

That was right in the middle of the huge Omicron surge.

Look, I can appreciate WWE TRYING to make a new young star in Austin Theory, but this is kinda hilarious.

Heyman told the world on Raw that Lesnar wouldn't make it to 'mania as champion, which suggested that Beastie Boy was going to face someone of pretty high caliber, and Paul said it would be a match worthy of MSG.
I don't blame anybody for expecting something big and I don't blame anybody for feeling let down by what we got.
