I am referring to situations where a wrestler was high on the card one year, then significantly feel down the card the subsequent year.
King Kong Bundy - He went headlining with Hogan to being placed in a mixed midget tag match the next year.
Jack Swagger - He went from having a world title match with Del Rio at 29 to working a tag match on the kickoff at 30. To make matters worse, he didn't even make the battle royal on the main show.
Paul Orndorff - He headlined the first Wrestlemania along with Piper, Hogan and Mr. T. Then the next year, he's opening the show against Muraco in a throwaway match.
Dean Ambrose - He's in a high profile feud with Brock Lesnar for 32. Then for 33, he's relegated to the kickoff show.
Are there any other good examples to add to this list?

I'm thinking this was supposed to be a much bigger match given Paul being a Hogan ally and Don helping Bundy injure Hogan but neither guy could lose clean at the time so they had a non finish. The Piper/T match was pretty awful as well. Piper would never do business when it didn't suit him, why Vince kept bringing him back is beyond me.

Macho? Went from champ in main event to a mixed tag match, which was part comedy match? It was a prime match, being with Dusty and being King and a feature match being a first ever, but it’s still a big drop.
Certainly not the biggest, but in the conversation somewhere.

Drew McIntyre’s gone from winning the WWE Title clean over Brock Lesnar to losing a WWE Title match to Bobby Lashley to wrestling Happy Corbin.

We also can add the Miz to the list. He went from defending the WWE title against Cena and winning to just another warm body to fill the multi man tag match.

Would Lex Luger count? He went from a world title match at WrestleMania X, to a tag match with The British Bulldog against Jacob and Eli Blu that opened the show the following year.

Big Show was in the main event of Wrestlemania 2000, then was in a throw away hardcore title match a year later at Wrestlemania X7.

- Stone Cold main eventing X7 against the Rock to a middle of the card match with Scott Hall (R.I.P) at X8
- Daniel Bryan closing out Wrestlemania XXX as World Champion to show opener in a multi man Ladder Match for the IC Title at WM31

Opening the show isn't bad. You're the ones that get the crowd fired up for the show. A bad opener can derail the show. The opener, the middle, and the end are the 3 most important matches on a big card. The opener gets the crowd fired up, the middle gets the crowd fired up just as they might be losing steam, and the end is the end.

Not a huge example of a plummet, but Benoit going from winning that triple threat for the world title and closing the show with confetti and all that jazz, to being one of the guys in the Money in the Bank ladder match. Kind of a step backwards for him career wise.
Double points tho, cause he literally did plummet that Wrestlemania, off of a ladder, that is.

Sgt. Slaughter went from defending his WWF Title against Hulk Hogan in the main event to being a member of an 8 Man Tag Team Match where I'm not sure he was legally tagged in for more than a minute.

That tag match was a real shame. Neither team even got a theme music entrance on the PPV. Bossman and Duggan were over like crazy the last year or two and Nasty Boys were winning the tag belts the previous year. I do often wonder whose theme both teams came out to at the show.
