Also like... you don't have to be a cross burning member of the klan to be racist.
it's also not like you are either a person that is never racist or you are ALL THE TIME...
the point is to realize the times you did or said something that hurt people, acknowledge it and try to be a better person going forward...
but like... Hogan has basically decided he said I'm sorry if I made you feel that way... or whatever non-pology he used... and then immediately went and acted as if he was absolved or if like people needed to accept it.
When... no they don't especially with just how racist his rant actually was.
If people don't want to accept his apology... they honestly don't have to... dude was a hero to millions of people and he clearly hurt multitudes of them with his words.

I'll go slightly off board here and say, blocking me on Twitter. Why? I dunno. Tagging him and saying Hogan in TNA was like seeing Secretariat at the state fair? Tagging him and saying tearing your shirt off like him was the coolest way to take off a shirt? I dunno, but it was one of those two.
It's a little bit fun Hulk took just a moment out of his day to block me.

Holy shit, you're blaming Hogan's racism on his daughter? Not at all. I don't believe he's a racist. I do believe that anger over Brookes failed career, and all of the other BS the man had going on in his personal life, boiled over. Have you ever been so angry that you went on a racist rant?

As a man, an arsehole.
As a wrestler, the biggest star of all time.

Well as the president of the hulk hogan Western Europe fanclub(I’m going to need a new sarcasm meter after that) I think he’s a racist asshole who’s a pathological liar. And maybe it’s because I got in wrestling properly in 1993/94 so my first contemporary memory of him is wondering what the f*** happened to his eye(WM IX) so Unlike many I don’t have this red and yellow nostalgic view of him.
And yes I know it’s a good strategy to separate the wrestler from the person but even still I know he’s got a massive place in wrestling but without Bruno in WWE there wouldn’t have been a company for Vince to take national so for that reason I put Bruno above hogan and always will. I realise I’m going against the grain here but f*** hogan.
and also seeing how new day and in particular big E reacted to him taking at the HOF make my happy in my stance on hogan.

His public apology was clown shit. I've been homeless, sick and nearly dead. Never started throwing around racist rants because of it. Infinite for HOF.

WWE will naturally celebrate him and his place in history is assured. But I think it's going to be more a colder historic legacy rather than the warmth towards other big names of the past.
In any field there's always a tendency to forgive more for the true greats. However while his career is suited to the documentary style retrospectives I can't see widespread appeal of much of his work taken in isolation. Something like a random Bret Hart match can work well in isolation but I think Hogan needs context. Throw in his racism and who is going to go seeking it out, better to leave the memories alone.
Amongst wrestlers he's a waning influence and I can't image the kids dressed as OC will be seeking out his work.
I guess it's kind of a John Wayne legacy, still recognisable, can't deny his importance to their industry, lots of fond memories for those who grew up with them but a product of their time with ever decreasing relevance to the present day. Even those looking back at 40s movies are going to be drawn more towards Citizen Kane or Casablanca.

The racist rant won’t be forgotten, but it will pretty much only be mentioned in fan communities like this and mostly in private by the younger wrestlers who don’t have Hulkamania and the nWo as part of their childhood/early fandom.
The business itself will treat him like a fallen king. Death always makes people forget the bad and remember the good.

Time isn't gonna erase his flaws. In fact it's more likely to bring it out in view. If Walt Disney's anti-semitism and treatment of people has become more apparent over the years, Hogan sure as hell isn't gonna be immune. Not to change topics too much but did more come from the anti-semitism? Because from looking it up, it seemed it came from an bitter ex employee’s book and nowhere else. It’s different from the hatred of unions and workers treatment because it felt like everyone Disney worked with had a story like that. I think some of it comes from when he was a bit too eager to still do business with the Nazi government when even the rest of Hollywood was going "Nah." Even this was really out of wanting to try and keep business good rather than any ideological leanings though. By most accounts, he didn't seem to have any real anti-Semitic beliefs beyond the normal stuff of the time, but had enough moments to make you look at him sideways.

He'll be remembered by the vast majority as the most recognizable and popular professional wrestler of all time.

He'll be remembered by the vast majority as the most recognizable and popular professional wrestler of all time. This is the best guess as to what Hogan’s legacy will be. He is, without a doubt, the most important wrestler in history. The entire wrestling world would be a lot worse off if it wasn’t for him. While obviously a racist, frankly (and sadly) the vast majority of the population doesn’t care. We do as wrestling fans. But the types of racism and bigotry Hogan has shown is equal to many historical figures still beloved by the general population. Unfortunately that’s just the way it is.

I mean, you really can’t deny how important he is. He is one of, if not the greatest star pro wrestling has ever produced. The only one who may have a greater impact on the mainstream is The Rock.
As a wrestler, I am a fan of his work. I am still entertained greatly by 80’s Hogan and have nostalgic feelings of 90s WCW, especially the NWO era. And I have fond memories of his WWE comeback, back in the early to mid 2000s.
As a person, yeah that’s gonna be a lot more complicated. Can’t ever forget the asshole politics and of course the racism. He’s definitely in my “separate the art from the artist” list. Which unfortunately has a good chunk of wrestlers on it. It should not be ignored of course. So you have to weigh the good with the bad, and it’s up to you how it effects you. I’ll definitely be sad if Hogan died tomorrow. But I’d only really celebrate the in ring stuff. I’m never going to celebrate him as a person.

If you want a preview, check out the reactions to Triple H's retirement, I guess. The "appreciation" thread reads like he died trying to save a bunch of people from a fire. And of course he portrayed "black face" not once but twice so quite similar to Hogan in lots of regards.
