His place in wrestling history as a Mount Rushmore guy will take up the top paragraphs of his obit.
Down lower somewhere will be the racist statements he made and how that affected his standing.
Interestingly, also included will be how he took down Gawker, a then-very prominent gossip/celebrity dirt site with his lawsuit that was a pretty groundbreaking ruling that reined in a lot of mainstream dirtsheet sites that operated under the assumption that they publish anything they wanted as long as the person was a public figure. I imagine that anyone suing a tabloid, or even threatening to if something isn’t taken down, lists that legal precedent. So he has a footnote in legal history that way.

His biggest legacy will end up being the trial and Peter Thiel's bank rolling of it to destroy Gawker. The repercussions of that are felt way outside of wrestling or pop culture.

He was one of my favorites. I was a Hulkamaniac and then an NWO-Ite and I think despite his issues, he'll be remembered as one of the greatest draws and entertainers of all time....and the guy with the horse sized.....um, winky?

IF.
If he passes, then all of the lies of Hulk Hogan being immortal will need to be addressed.

He helped bring Pro Wrestling into the American Mainstream and keep it there.

Yeah, for better or worse this is likely to be the most significant thing he was ever involved in.

He'll be remembered as one of the greatest of all time and all the negatives will unfortunately fade into history, footnotes on wiki pages, like so many other controversial athletes. He will be thought of as the man who built the modern sport as we know it.

Sounds like he's got someone just as awful of a BSer/liar than he is in "Ron" the guy who runs his Beach Shop, based on recent podcast clip and google reviews. At least the google reviews from people other than those that fall for Hogan's crap and give 5 star reviews. Based on the 5 stars, Hogan's legacy will live positively forever. I hope it doesn't. I hope we are better than that as a society.

Some reviews say Ron is the owner, some say manager. I'm thinkink he's a guy who had the money to buy the store and merch and sustain it. Everything Hogan touches turns to crap outside 1980s/90s wrestling. No way Hogan legit owns this shop and it's been in business for so long. But he's rubbed off well on Ron. A few reviews have Ron getting in touch with customers who bought signed merch, claiming a site mistake-price is just for unsigned but if they want Hulk to sign it-it's another $100-200. And their card is already charged and refunds can not be issued.
But as far as legacy goes, the larger amount of 5 star reviewers are probably sadly a tiny percent of people who love him and he will be remember fondly. Again, I hope he's not remembered at all.

His legacy will be more about his wrestling career than his shortcomings as a person. Kobe Bryant comes to mind as someone who has some pretty heavy baggage attached to him, but more people cared about his on court achievements than the Colorado hotel incident.

WWE will whitewash the s*** out of him as long as he doesn't screw up again... But the rest of us. The Smarks on the Internet. We'll all know better.

His own obituary will probably be full of lies, like how he killed Andre in 1997 with a legdrop and how he was the first choice to play Iron Man but missed the phonecall from Marvel because he was in the shower.

Kobe put in the work to redeem himself for something far worse. Hogan hid in Florida and kept being Hogan.
