I’ll say it again… Tony Khan hates fun. Which is why he asked John Silver to embrace Johnny Hungie persona? Or why he had OC win over Jericho in a mimosa match? Or had Danhausen try to curse Hook repeatedly and fail? Or had him debut by being on a random ladder under the ring? I mean, I can keep going but saying he "hates fun" is really not true going by his track record. Yeah he leans towards more serious aspects of wrestling, but he still includes plenty of levity in his shows.

I've mentioned this before but, I really feel like the higher-ups at AEW should go out of their way to read some of the "Aces High" interviews New Japan did with Hiroshi Tanahashi. They could also benefit from reading his book.
In both, he talks in great detail about how he feels like a big part of what caused the NJPW resurgence was the fact that, after touring in Mexico, he figured out how to adapt his style and persona to become much more appealing to kids without looking too silly. I think AEW could take more than a few pages out of that playbook and help their appeal to a younger audience. That would create a lot more long-term sustainability for them as a promotion.
Appealing to the "key demo" of 18-35 men is great for the short-term. Kids are your future demographically.

I still don’t know that a Johnny Hungie or a “bulge” is… The dark order isn’t really any fun it’s three tag teams and Colt cabana following Hangman around like puppy dogs. Danhausen and OC are the exception to the rule but they regulated to the best friends. When commentary has to go out their to crap on them, or reminding you shes not really a alien, or a dinosaur, or a dead girl. Doesn’t feel fun to me. Sure I can watch dark but I don’t care about squash matches on YouTube.

We have a dinosaur for a tag champion. I mean... Even then it feels like Avenue to get Jungle Boy over as a “pillar” when they won the titles it was “JUNGLE BOY!! JACK PERRY!! HE DID IT!’ …Luchasaurus too I guess.” Dude feels like a third wheel in his own tag title run I love over the top characters like Danhausen, OC, Luchasaurus, Peter Avalon. Seriously the Nashville show was such a downer. (Rampage had four heels going over in a row.) he had to bring Best Friends, Jurassic Express (are they still allowed to be called that?) and Hook to send the fans home happy. So there’s fun characters but they are few and far between.

I really feel as if WWE did what it wanted flooding the market with wrestlers. AEW snatched up a bunch of people and now they're the show they were beating in their "war" and started losing some of the fun that made them 'must watch' for me.
I'm very thankful for Dark and Elevation and those are the shows I mainly watch now. In them, I get brief matches where wrestlers can develop in-ring personalities and try out different styles in between nonsense like putting Serpentico in a match with Lance Archer. Heck, Archer's squash matches aren't routine. They find different ways to have him destroy. He daggone did a match where all he did was closeline a dude until finally hitting his finish and it was hilarious and effective without being a "Oh, big man squash. Blah" match.
So, yeah. A lot of my AEW routine is the YouTube stuff. I basically watch the recaps of the main shows off there channel at this point. Outside of stuff I'd like to see (Hobbs/Lee because I share the same sentiments as Big E) I skip what I don't care about. I haven't watched a ReDragon or that loudmouth MMA guy video in months and it hasn't hurt one little bit.

I am completely fine with them not introducing bullshit to sell toys.
They haven't hid that they're courting a different audience. WWE can have that stuff.

The tag team champs are literally a wrestling dinosaur and his Tarzan-expy best friend. AEW has plenty of fun gimmicks.

Seriously I don’t know why the attitude exists that every company needs everything another company has there are plenty of places for wacky crap there’s a million alternatives support them if they sell what you like not everything has to cater something to you it’s like expecting Bloodsport to feature John Cena in full 2010 kid friendly mode next year.

Like that's not exactly AEW's fault, they explained it well when it happened they were calling Adam that to annoy him. And they don't really go out of your way to do that, maybe JR does, but I don't really get this stigma that AEW can't have fun... we have plenty of acts that are dorky, and goofy, and do over the top shit, including the world champion who just showed up in a Tesla... with giant longhorns attached to it...

Never has to me... and they play the Dinosaur thing as goofy as possible, Christian saying he's one third Triceratops, "Happy Birthday Luchasaurus, you don't look a day over 60 million!", his angry one word follow ups to promos, like "AAAASSSS!!", etc.

I just want more Danhausen. He's a real rarity in pro wrestling as a comedy gimmick that is genuinely hilarious. Most of the time, it's either in bad taste (Oklahoma in WCW), too lowbrow (Natalya's farting angle), or too kiddie (Hornswoggle). You could take Danhausen out of the context of pro wrestling and it would still work. Drop him into a horror host role like Svengoolie or Joe Bob Briggs and he would absolutely nail it.
