I'm the first to tell anyone who asks that the women's division needs some work, but this horse is beyond dead and has now been beaten into dust. Things ARE improving, slowly. Jade is turning into a star. Shida and Deeb will have a great "workers who know how to work" match with some real heat behind it. Julia Hart seems to be getting a personality with the heel turn coming. Even the Rosa/Nyla feud is at least back to being passable instead of the absolute clusterf*** it started as. You can't fix the problems that are present overnight. The only thing that isn't trending upward is the 930 pre-main event deathslot for the women's matches. I think that’s how I see it. It’s most definitely the weak spot of the company, but it is improving. Not fast enough for some people, but it is slowly improving.

Some are bothered that Khan depended a lot on Britt and the push of Jade in the latter turned out to be better than what anyone expected besides giving too much time to Bunny and Penelope last year that it got boring that they often lost.

I’ll grant Britt’s reign got stale at the end, and say that as a fan of hers. Also, I will say that I feel like I’ve been proven wrong by Jade. Despite her still being green, there is obvious improvement and she feels like a champion. So I feel like despite being iffy on her winning at the time, I think she’s proven me wrong.

My biggest bitch with Britt's reign, and her character in general, is that they would not let her look inept or scared. She's a mean girl bully, and that's fine and great as wrestling heel, but you have to give the audience SOMETHING of a reminder that the character she's trying to play is really just a chickenshit coward, deep down.

Honestly they felt like they tried to make Britt both a chickenshit heel and a “hardcore cool badass” at the same time. And those two things don’t work in the same character.
And it’s not ALL on AEW. Britt often just did not sell those kinds of moments very well.

Mostly I would wish for womens wrestling booked by women rather than a man, no matter how well his intentions may be.

Just cutting to the chase. Well I can definitely see why this board has a big "CALM THE HELL DOWN" post on top. We really need to be nicer to each other. It's getting very hard to talk about AEW. OP is one of the main reasons that we have that post pinned. They've made very similar posts multiple times, and they don't take criticism (even from people who generally agree) well.

Mostly I would wish for womens wrestling booked by women rather than a man, no matter how well his intentions may be. I do think it'd have benefits for them to have a dedicated booker in some respects. I know Kenny Omega has been very hands-on at points, which made sense given he's worked a good deal with women in Japan and was personally familiar with the work of a number of the women already, but I get the impression that, especially by the time he won the world title, he just didn't have the kind of time to juggle that and also the booking. As for a woman doing it, I do know Maria's openly been interested in doing it for TK's ROH since she was doing it for ROH at the end and really turned the "Women of Honor" thing into not a complete joke it unfortunately had become. No idea if Khan will take her up on that, but I'd certainly be curious what sort of ideas she'd have for AEW's women, too, for that matter, if they did give her a look.

All I know is that I am going through Britt Baker withdrawals. They kept giving me so much Britt for so long, once she just disappeared without a trace, my brain just can't handle going cold turkey without my weekly Britt Baker fix.

Yeah there’s problems with the division but it’s basically impossible to discuss it anymore cause few people can’t just chill the hell out. Not even just a FAN problem.

I'll try to add my current thoughts without contributing to this kind of discussion falling off the rails for the 8th or 9th time:
Why are the women plonked in the 'match before the main event' slot EVERY.SINGLE.WEEK. It's like we are being collectively conditioned to not give a shit about them.
Anyway, its going to be hard for any division to get going properly if it's only getting 2 matches on tv a week. That limits the amount of talent and progression of storylines, significantly. You can have as many backstage promos, beatdowns and 15 second video packages as you want; unless this one womens match to a Dynamite and Rampage rule changes, we will not see the division showcased to the point where we all want it to be.

you'd think it would pick up with all these owen hart qualifiers not to mention the tourney itself. at the rate they're going it will be fall before the cup actually finishes.on the plus side they are actually having qualifiers for the women this time, so you can see some new faces outside the regulars. though they would need to have one of the dark/elavation regulars actually pull off the upset to shake things up.as an upset willow nightengale over red velvet would have been a good time for one i thought.

There's too much Bunny on my screen. Give me 100% less Bunny. That would be a good start.

There are issues and there have been missteps but there's also been improvements as well. Is it where some may want it? of course not. Is it worth critiquing? Absolutely. Should we also acknowledge that there also have been improvements and multiple angles being built? Absolutely.
I think we also just have to accept that a lot of the talent on the female side that AEW wants to feature are insanely raw.

Willow Nightingale should have won. I'm not saying she should've won, but she's got serious potential.

Well this is a new and original thread.
I’ll just say what I always say, no, it is not “shockingly awful.” It’s the weak point of the show, but is starting to improve immensely. Jade’s awesome and has been impressively booked to her strengths. There’s a lot of promise in Rosa’s title reign, and after an initial hiccup the storyline with Nyla has been good.
And, I’ll just politely disagree that Anna Jay needs to be featured more. I think she’s right where she should be on the card.

I'd like to see a women's match open Dynamite and be the hot opener for once as I don't think a women's match has ever been in that position (the Cole/Baker vs. OC/Statlander mixed tag did, IIRC.) Let Deeb and Shida open with their next match. I get that it won't be the hot draw that a Punk opener is, but AEW has to show the fans that the women are worth investing in before they will invest.
