I'll just never understand how 20 guys in their 30s or close to 40 can enjoy being like that, knowing it's potential destroying someone else. Oh right...It's Shawn and Hunter. And it's part of the show but I'm sure they loved doing it. The Spirit Squad guys weren't as talented, they didn't have the connections and thus, it's ok to hurt them as much as they can be hurt. It's like all of Vince's favorites destroying guys on Raw when the Signature Pharmacy scandal broke. I'm sure Hunter and JBL loved every minute of hurting Umaga and Harry Smith and sending them off.

Hated DX in 2006. So much cringeworthy stuff. But I can’t get too worked up about a harsh burial for the Spirit Squad. It was trash. And Dolph recovered fine. I don’t think any of the other guys would’ve been long term stars if they didn’t get stuffed in a box that said OVW on it.

I remember really liking Johnny Jeter because he did a corkscrew kick, but otherwise...
It depends on how you look at it. It was shitty, but also, WWE at that point were already pretty aware that the majority of the Spirit Squad would never be used again, so on that front, there wasn't really any harm in burying them.

On the one hand that gimmick had no legs and already doomed everyone involved from the start. On the other hand... Yeah I can't think of a more blatant burial in the entire history of the business.

The Sprit Squad were midcard comedy goons. It's not like they did this to Show or Henry or even Ziggler when he had changed gimmicks. How many people could even tell which of them was which?
Plus in 2006 how much of the five million watching knew what it even meant?
This run of DX was appalling television but this really wasn't that egregious

It totally was way too harsh but also Spirit Squad had a borderline reign of terror over a good portion of 2006 that was very harsh on me as a viewer so I did not care at all about them getting an absolutely f***ed up sendoff like that. Also I was a baby smark so I saw OVW and I was like OH SHIT THAT'S WHERE THE ELITE DERRIK NEIKIRK LIVES.
