His theme song was awesome and I hated the "facey" version they did of it.

Oh, it's that time of year where people pretend Alberto Del Rio was no good and wasn't over On the contrary, a lot of this is more slagging his booking. Even if he's a dubious person, he certainly has talent and he did have periods where he was getting big reactions, but a lot of his feuds went long or had no real angle around it, just him facing Sin Cara, Orton, Sheamus or Kallisto what felt like 50 times in a row. Same shit has happened to Orton at times, but they usually at least give him some storyline to go with it, plus he's been around so long that he's had some good feuds even if a lot of his feuds have been awful. I can easily think of solid matches he's been in, but it's the storytelling that WWE sometimes really phones in, and I think they took for granted "he's our big latin superstar" and didn't bother putting the work in with him for big stretches.

Honestly, his brief face run was the closest I ever came to finding him interesting during his time in WWE.

All of this. ADR is a piece of shit human being and also a very talented pro wrestler. He doesn't have the most personality in the world and WWE's shitty TV writers never knew what to do with a talented wrestler with a great look but was short in the charisma department. But with the cars, pyro and most importantly his own personal ring announcer his presentation was top notch. A couple of my casual fan friends either liked ADR or at least took notice of him. And isn't that what WWE is interested in more than anything?

I enjoyed his first year, basically. Dude debuted looking like an established main eventer who had it all already. The right look, the size and stature, an excellent theme song w/ that entrance scarf, the entrance and ring announcer, the ring ability, the charisma...I thought he was just fantastic. After awhile, they have the guy coming out in his own t-shirts, which does not fit a wealthy Mexican aristocrat. It just began feeling a little samey and thin. I liked that one match with Big Show he had, and some of the Christian stuff was good as well, but yeah, his feuds weren't that great. Nothing compared to his awful 2nd run with the LoN though; he seemed disinterested and bored. That's also when he did that stupid finisher where the guy has to actively hold the ropes so he gets stomped from the top rope. Look, we all know this stuff isn't real, you don't need to Young Bucks us with it in the face. I wish things were different with him, but after his real life issues began coming out, I was glad to see him gone.

Pretty much this to a T. Not factoring in him not being the greatest person in the world IRL he was definitely talented and had things going for him and at times could be entertaining when they actually put thought into his booking like his early heel stuff or his short lived face run in 2013. However the problem was he had quite possibly the most lazy and repetitive booking I've ever seen for a wrestler. It seemed like every month they would have him job out the midcard rotation of Kofi, Zack Ryder, Sin Cara, Tyson Kidd, and Justin Gabriel (hence the popular Wheel of Aggression meme these boards at the time) as the announcers talked about aggressive he was and then lose at the PPV to some heavily pushed top babyface like Orton and Sheamus. They would just keep doing this over and over from 2012 until he left the first time in in 2014 when he assaulted that back stage worker for making some kind of racist remark. It also didn't help that they took everything about him that made him interesting and entertaining to begin with. In the beginning he was this cocky and condescending heel who had great presentation with him driving to the ring in the cars. Then they got rid of all of that and made him into a more generic mean and intense heel which made him feel far less special.

Does his feud with casual racists in management count?

I liked Del Rio's feud with Mysterio when he debuted
him and Christian feuding over the big gold belt was great
his double turn feud with Ziggler was great
Alberto had the look of a star when he showed up, was an excellent wrestler... but his booking was the shits
it was all downhill for him after yammering about DESTINY being champion at WrestleMania for months... where he lost to Edge... then lost to Christian over the belt for a few months and never sniffed the main event again

How often we forget that he too, did stoop that low and used duct tape during a last man standing match.
