I remember big hype in the live thread here for who Paul Heyman's mystery new client who'd be the next Lesnar or Punk would be, and the reactions of bafflement/rage/hilarity when McGillicutty's fat face appeared on the Titantron. Wish I were a member back then

As long as Heyman was with Lesnar, it was going to damage any other talent he was with as they would become the fall guy by proxy.
Curtis, Ryback, Cesaro.
Heyman didn't do enough to protect/build (kayfabe wise and performance wise) his other clients.
Imagining someone with Curtis Axel's talents in the hands of a Bobby Heenan in a fun prospect.

Remember when Bret said Michael McGillicutty should end Undertaker's WM streak? Wait, did he REALLY say that?

Counterpoint to this: Terry Taylor.

Is there a picture of Axel out there with long hair and a signet?

He just isn't really that good, except as a comedy guy.
The fact he has any value at all still puts him in like the top 10% of second generation wrestlers

Remember when Bret said Michael McGillicutty should end Undertaker's WM streak? Wait, did he REALLY say that? Bret thought really highly of his father and considered him one of his favorite opponents so it's not surprising he would overrate McGillicutty and say something ridiculous like that. Reminds me around 2009-10 there being rumors of them wanting Ted Dibiase Jr. to eventually be the guy to end Taker's streak. Don't know what was the obsession in the early 2010's with wanting super bland third generation wrestlers whose fathers were 80's WWF stars being the one to end the streak.

I've read his book and heard him speak of Perfect a few times, so I'm aware of how highly he thought of his Father but it still surprises me, and makes me laugh, to hear that he overrated McGillicutty to that extent personally speaking.

Bret tends to overexaggerate a lot when it comes to his opinion on wrestlers especially if they are second/third generation or are women who get him hard. This is the same guy that dead serious said Melina was the best worker in the world at one point. It's stuff like that makes it hard to take his opinions serious.

Yeah I noticed he either REALLY likes a wrestler or REALLY doesn't like them when I read his book I don't take his opinions too seriously even though he's one of my favourite wrestlers to watch.

I remember him giving Hogan a 2 for in ring work in his 1 to 10 rating system which I thought was pretty harsh. A 5 or a 6 I would say especially pre 1992 would be more fair I think. Although to his credit he did give him his props by giving him a 10 in both promos and look which surprised considering how much he hates him with him still burying him in interviews even to this day.

I don't think he had a choice BUT to give him props for promos and looks without being completely ridiculed. As for the ring work, yeah 2 is harsh since I don't recall Hogan hurting anyone (at least not seriously) in the ring so that automatically makes a wrestler at least a 5 in my personal scoring at least. I'd give Hogan a 6 for the most part and a 7 on occasion.

I think Bret gave himself a 10 for in ring, a 7 in look, and a 4 in promos.

Probably his way of ''looking humble'' in his book nah seriously it is funny that Hogan ended up getting more points under Bret's system than Bret himself.

Hard to do with all the parts talking about all the hot girls he banged and how people were coming up to him with tears in their eyes to tell him how great he was. For some reason I get the feeling that he didn't realize that he was more or less saying that Hogan was a better all around performer then him.
