Considering how friendly AEW is with other companies that's probably what will happen, they'll throw her a nice money deal, move her pretty quickly to the top of their women's division and give her freedom to work wherever she wants. The WWE needs to start thinking here, if they hand IO and Sasha to AEW you are giving them the female aces that they lack for that division...is this the kinda thing you wanna do? I mean Fightful reported a month or two ago that Io was super well liked backstage by her coworkers and management. The problem is that Vince and Bruce weren't explicitly named. And those two are the only people who matter. If they put forth even a fraction of the effort they are putting forth in their ten billionth attempt to get Lacey over, Io would be a top star in no time. As painful as it is to say, we don't know how much longer Asuka is going to be wrestling. Io would be the ideal person to fill her shoes when the time comes. Because it's painfully clear WWE sees nothing in Sarray. This literally comes down to Vince and Bruce would like to have sex with Lacey, Io not so much, so here we are.

It is not that I do not believe it but I am gonna wait for more details on specifically the reasoning because it has been said many a time , that Meltzers track record for reporting on Japanese talents is not very good and Io is a very private person so who knows when she had said that to whoever like there is context missing in that for me. Anyways IF all of this ends up being true then it goes down absoloutley as the biggest wasted female talent in WWE history , to me she is the best womens wrestler of her generation and I still consider her the best in the world. I can see AEW offering her a big time deal that allows her alot more time to be in Japan while working for them and they would be immensely stupid to not immediately field her an offer the absoloute second her contract runs out. WWE losing both Sasha and Io in a short span of time is Dixie Carter running late WCW levels of insane incompetence. There was a report not long ago that basically said WWE thinks they can basically clone Sasha as in...they can let her go and anyone can fill her spot. I expect their thinking is the same with Io...we have Asuka so we can let Io go without taking into account at all that Asuka is 40 and very likely closer to the end of her career as a full timer at best while Io is in her prime and the same with Sasha. They lack the forseight to see the consequences of such action...this is not like letting a Dana Brooke walk away this is letting 2 absoloutle aces walk away potentially into your rivals hands and immediately getting plugged into a division that has needed that 1 woman but now instead of 1 they get the two best of the entire lot.

This is a dangerous game they're playing in that they give no shits about anyone but 3 guys leaving.

Keep in mind that if Fightful is to be believed, then this viewpoint is almost certainly just between Vince and Bruce. Otherwise, everyone else backstage and in the company actually likes Io and sees value in her.

I dont think WWEs treatment of Io means they dont take womens wrestling seriously. Plenty of other things going on since Ace and Pritchard came back do show that though. IMO the reason Io never got used is WWE being close minded and racist. Close minded in that a wrestler has to fit their narrow view of what a star is. Io does amazing work but she cant cut those long promos they want. They rarely deviate from their formula. The racist part is the Asuka exception. She is very similar to Io but has been pushed well at times. But WWE probably feels they have their one asian who cant speak well so they dont need another. Asuka also got through and was already established by the time Prichard and Ace got back, she's basically grandfathered in. Today's WWE is much more about Nikita Lyons and Carmella than it is Io Shirai. I think even if Bruce and Ace never came back Vince still wouldnt want Io. Vince would feel he has his asian so he is good.

If they were smart they would want Io as their Asuka replacement. But when has WWE ever been good about planning for the future? They throw the future away then scramble when they need them later.

Io has said repeatedly that she wants to go up to the main roster and try and become a star on the big stage.
But for some inexplicable reason, Vince and co seem to have zero interest in bringing her up?
It would not shock me, she has said she wants to try and be a star in America, if she looked at options that will give her to biggest platform.

Yup. It's like clockwork. WWE completely disregards a talent and their desires. A few months later, we all find out a talent is almost up for that contract, and WWE suddenly freaks out and throws all sorts of offers at them in an attempt to get them to stay. And then when they leave we get the report that management is shocked that said talent walked out on them. This has happened with several other talents already. In the case of Io, she has made it clear in every single interview she's done that she wants to be part of the main roster, but WWE keeps ignoring that. The main roster would likely afford her more time off to go see family as well, since they aren't required to show up every single day at the PC to do stuff she is above. I don't think its a stretch to say she's reading the tea leaves here, and realizing that WWE isn't going to treat her with respect. No offense to women like Xia Li or Aliyah, but they should definitely still be in NXT, but instead got called up over Io, who was ready from the day she stepped foot into the company. That's definitely going to rub some wrestlers the wrong way. It also doesn't help that you have three of the four horsewomen (Sasha [but she's technically gone so whatever], Bayley, and Charlotte) who have outright said Io is the future of this company, and how they want to put her over as the future. The only one who hasn't weighed in is Becky and that's because she's never been asked.

It is why I am skeptical about this reasoning for her not resiging. This is not to say I do not believe she does miss her family I absoloutley believe it but I doubt that would be why she does not resign or atleast the sole reason , like you said she has made is very known she wants to go to the main roster and wants to try and become a success on that stage but they wont let her and so she is left with no reason to stay. Would not surprise me if she has had conversations with some of the japanese talent in AEW and gotten a feel for it through them of what would happen if she were to sign there.

Really good news if true, she doesn't have a chance in the main roster and has done it all in nxt so it's best she moves on and shows why she is the best in the world in a place she deserves.

It was pointed out on another site I lurk on, but this couldn't have happened at a worse time for WWE. They absolutely desperately need new blood on the main roster that could be seen as an actual major threat towards Bianca and/or Ronda. Io is literally the only woman in NXT who could fit into that role right now. If she walks out, then the main roster women's division is completely and utterly f***ed for the foreseeable future.

Can't say I'd blame her if she leaves (even though I'd miss dat theme). This has been discussed to death on here, but it's baffling to me that she's never been called up.

I'm definitely not as hard on WWE as a lot of y'all but man that would be a goddamn shame if they let Io walk without ever getting a main roster run.

I dunno if this is her being unhappy in WWE or her not wanting to balance a life with her family in Japan. I could imagine that being rough out there.

You gonna let this woman potentially walk right into the hands of your rival...WWE YOU STUPID STUPID STUPID. Well good thing is if she walks Io will be able to get back to her full power and not this holding SSJ3 against Vegeta schtick she has had to be doing this whole time.

I fail to see how her run in NXT has been remotely poor or wasted. She was their top star, a top draw even, and held the title for a long time.
She was injured, she got a good big come back, she was about to enter a story with Zoey Start that was getting a lot of time, but Zoey got injured, they pivoted to keep her involved and then she got injured herself.
Not being the tippy top undefeatable champion for 5 years doesnt mean she wasn't used well when she was fit and able to be used. Equally, not being Poochie and being #1 contender every time she wasnt champion doesn't mean they were wasting her. She has always been a feature of TV as long as she is healthy.
The f*** up here is WWE seemingly deciding that they dont want to use her on the main roster, and a big part of that is likely related to Vince's belief that if you cannot talk, you cannot be on TV.
If she has now given up on them and wants to go home, that's their stupidity, but let's not pretend she didnt have a cracking run in NXT for a long time - it was just too long a time.
