I mean Fightful reported a month or two ago that Io was super well liked backstage by her coworkers and management. The problem is that Vince and Bruce weren't explicitly named. And those two are the only people who matter. If they put forth even a fraction of the effort they are putting forth in their ten billionth attempt to get Lacey over, Io would be a top star in no time. As painful as it is to say, we don't know how much longer Asuka is going to be wrestling. Io would be the ideal person to fill her shoes when the time comes. Because it's painfully clear WWE sees nothing in Sarray. This literally comes down to Vince and Bruce would like to have sex with Lacey, Io not so much, so here we are. It's so sad, if this really in the end was the hard truth.

I mean losing Io on its own is a huge blow yeah. But the damage is significantly worse once you realize that they also basically lost Sasha as well. That's two women who you could build an entire division around, walking out the door. And considering Ronda and Bianca have cleared out their respective divisions of challengers, the whole scene is going to stagnate. Especially since I can't honestly see any of the NXT 2.0 women being seen as threats to Ronda or Bianca. Io is the only woman down there I think most people would see as a threat towards those two (title wise).

They thought freaking Aaliyah (no offense) was more “worthy” of a main roster call up then Io?
And I’ve seen some of the videos of Io working dark matches. Even if people did not know her well going in. She got the fans behind her by the end of the match through sheet badassery regardless.

It happens in other industries. I worked in grocery retail. I had a store owner that didnt want to stock body wash because he didnt like it so he thought no one else liked it. Another only liked lemon scented hand soap and didnt care about having any others, despite customers asking for it. Still another hated raspberries so he banned them in his 9 stores, along with anything flavored raspberry. Didnt care about what customers wanted because he hated them. Vince feels women are ultimately sex objects and their appearance is their main selling point. And going back to the Gail Kim story it had to be explained to him that non asian can find asian women attractive.

I can't imagine most of the main roster women who wanted to work with Shirai will be happy if WWE lets her leave.

It came up alot that people assumed Io would struggle because she can't cut 20min english promos. Me myself never had a f***ing doubt she would succeed because there isn't a woman in the entire company that can work like she does because she has a rarity in that there is not a style she cannot accomadate....technical , brawling , lucha libre etc and I have always said she is absoloutley invaluable to any company because of what she can do which is well everything and that was always going to propell her to success regardless of promos because while their are other great talented women she is a complete rarity in skill set as far as female wrestlers go.

I can't imagine most of the main roster women who wanted to work with Shirai will be happy if WWE lets her leave. Cant imagine Vince and co care to be honest, their vision of womens wrestling is what you see in NXT 2.0. WWE had a womens roster of Mia Yim,Tegan Nox,The Icconics,Kairi Sane,Donna Purrazo,Ember Moon,Taya Valkryie,Mercades Martinez,Mickie James etc multi talented women who were diverse, all attractive, all superb in ring and all have been fired and the future doesnt look to good for the likes of Sasha,Naomi and Sarray.Io is a genuine world class talent but this company just doesnt care. Io needs to go because shes to good for this rubbish, and she would either be given a japanese stereotype or fed to the usual Ronda,Bianca etc on the main roster. Shes better off out.

If Io isn't the best womens wrestler in the world then she's at the very least in the top 10. And the they haven't done anything with her. Such a shame if she leaves but she's better off elsewhere.

I'm sorry but I don't understand how you can look at Io Shirai and not see a beautiful woman.
Obviously it shouldn't be about that. Women aren't sex objects. But even if you are coming at it from that angle, Io is one of the most beautiful women on the roster.

Vince is the same out of touch old man who had to be told that American men could find Asian women sexy just to get him to hire Gail Kim. And he was flabbergasted by that notion.

Will miss seeing her on my TV if she goes home. Great talent. The match she had with Candice LaRae on one of the takeover’s was phenomenal one of the best matches I’ve seen on NXT.

WWE is really speedrunning going from having the best women's roster in history to losing all of them lol.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZQ_2xkI1ns&t=714sSo someone uploaded IMO the best match in the Io Vs Mayu trilogy and all I will say is how can anyone anyone working for WWE watch that and think to themselves....oh yea lets let THAT woman potentially walk right into AEW. If anyone in WWE had any sense you would pretty much give her the world to atleast try and make sure that does not happen and Io isn't gonna be someone that would demand anything unreasonable which is gonna make very likely WWE's complete lack of attempt to retain her talents that much sadder.

she should have been brought up last year.
That said, the report says she wants to go home to her family, right? I'm wondering if she made these intentions known earlier in the year.

Probably not, since they’d have used her credibility to put over a few people on the way out. Even in this down period for her, she’d only been pinned twice since the start of last year.

Yeah, as recently as April of 2022, she mentioned how she wanted to move up to the main roster and wrestle there. So either something changed her mind while she was injured, or she's not liking what WWE is offering her (and is being polite by saying she just misses her family), which absolutely would not shock me. She's also been trending off and on today on Twitter, with pretty much every single tweet heavily criticizing WWE for never calling her up or giving her a shot on the main roster, despite being there for so long, and her wanting to be called up.
Obviously I can't rule out her signing a new deal with WWE, but they are going to have to really sweeten the deal now, as she has all the leverage in the world. A division that is on life support, pretty much every wrestling fan behind whatever decision she makes, etc. And it was pointed out elsewhere that this is radically different from the Cole and Gargano situation in that the men's division has never really been in a really bad spot. Where the women's stuff is, and finding strong women's talent is much more difficult these days. This is one of those cases where WWE is going to have to move heaven and earth to get her to stay, and offer her an incredibly good deal. But if they have to do that, now is the time to do it. Because losing both Sasha and Io in a little over a month period is an absolutely massive blow to WWE's women's division. And one I don't think they can recover from any time soon, if ever.

And again it likely isn't that difficult to keep Io since I highly doubt she is making any obsurd demands.
Call her up and allow her for a few weeks out the year to go back to Japan seems more than reasonable to me.
