I have never seen an actual heel turn in a real life sporting event, but Anthony Joshua pulled it off.
For context Joshua has always made his name on being a squeaky clean blue chip athlete, a consummate sportsman and professional. However beaten by Usyk for the second time in a row in a World Heavyweight Championship match he reacted like this:
I am beyond disappointed, on a night where he proved himself an elite level boxer making adjustments to match up with an opponent who had so thoroughly beaten him just a year ago, to very nearly reclaim the title, Anthony Joshua embarrassed himself and stole the moment of a national hero to the Ukraine who earlier this year was willing to risk his very life to defend his country, living in the turmoil of wondering if his family and friends were going to survive to sooth his wounded ego.

I get being upset with yourself and with not getting the victory despite fighting your best fight but that’s ridiculous.

This reminds me of when Jon Jones’ real character was revealed not long after the Rashad Evans fight.

I get being upset with yourself and with not getting the victory despite fighting your best fight but that’s ridiculous. For me it's the total 180 of "You're not strong, you're not skilled, how did you beat me?! You don't have character, I showed character!" to "Three cheers for Usyk!" in the span of 3 minutes. It just makes him seem extremely fake. It reminds me of the Serena Williams US Open thing from a few years back where she had a temper tantrum that she was actually expected to follow the rules of the game and then tried to make it a political thing.

AJ knows him as a big money fighter went out the door and threw a tantrum It was bound to happen. AJ never fought the biggest fights he could have despite being labeled the best and I can't say he's been exposed but he's lost a lot of luster on his name and that little tantrum only made it worse

Think this is rock bottom right now for AJ and I get it. He had to win this fight really. Where to now? His big fight with Fury looks like it definitely isn’t happening and he isn’t getting another rematch.
He had a bit of a meltdown but it happens. Hopefully he will look back and regret this. At least it will get people still talking about him since I think the British public is starting to lose faith.

The well crafted media training when out the window, probably a little concussed. The rudeboy Joshua peaked out his head and showed he was being disingenuous with the "No I am talking" when trying to do his "All Ukrainians are heroes bit" He can't see how Usyk beat him because he couldn't see the angle of Usyks attacks to begin with. Joshua had terrible feet the whole fight. Uysk used the ref really well to regain momentum whenever they got into a clinch. Joshua had a couple of good rounds early on, poured everything into round 9 and was gassed, did Uysk lur him in on round 9? Possibly as he battered him from the start of round 10 and Joshua had that confussed look on his face at the start of round 10 like he was wondering why Uysk was still standing after round 9.

Possibly as he battered him from the start of round 10 and Joshua had that confussed look on his face at the start of round 10 like he was wondering why Uysk was still standing after round 9. The shame of it all for him is, if he'd have stopped aiming for the head and focused on the body, it looked like a KO might not be far off. Whenever he hit the body Usyk just about folded in half. A couple more good powershots and Usyk might not have stood up to it. That's the hardest thing about combat sports. You can do everything right, and still lose in the end because sometimes the other guy is just better. He had the perfect game plan, he executed it just right, he very nearly ended Usyk's night with body shots, but Usyk showed the heart of a champion and did enough to weather the storm, and turn it around. Now Joshua's out of the title picture for the foreseeable future. He says that he will be a three time champion, and indeed he might one day but now he needs to rebuild and start again. He needs to start rebuilding his image with an apology for this bullshit.

Joshua's persona has always been fake. Humble, media trained robot who says his prayers and eats his vitamins.
Thing is, he's been playing up to it so long I'm not sure he knows who he is at this point. Throw the disappointment of losing and some brain trauma, and you get whatever the hell that was. It was literally like he was malfunctioning.

1) kind of question the logic of getting in a guys face after he just beat you in a fist fight
2) holy shit dude went full on pro wrestling and cut a promo after the match.
3) things like this make it hard to take boxing seriously

Truth be told I just felt really bad for Usyk. This was supposed to be his moment where he was going to get to send a message back home to the proud courageous people of the Ukraine and encourage them as a national hero during this trying time in their history, and instead this shit happened.
Look at his face while this is going on. Beyond the genuine confusion he just looks hurt, like he's wondering "Why are you doing this?"
Breaks my heart, because he's such a respectful genuine guy. He didn't deserve to get shit on like that.

Just watched it. This is Hogan levels of "60k people watched me leave instead of watching the *new champion celebrate" type of BS from AJ.
*Even though the champion is defending.

Good on Usyk for just letting AJ hang himself. Yuck, what a douche!

Dude apologized, but yeah, sounds like a whole lot of entitled feelings, bitterness, etc, converged and he blew up and humiliated himself.

Joshua is done. He should have retired after the second Ruiz fight.

He just acknowledged it was a stupid thing to do but never really apologized. He said he "spoke from the heart, and not everybody is going to understand that". but never acknowledged that he stole Usyk's moment.
