I played everything from Assassin's Creed 1 to Odyssey over the (many) years. Put a huge amount of hours in. Either 100% achievements or close to for all of them.
But I tapped out after Odyssey. Just tired of the gameplay loop, finally, and Valhalla didn't appeal to me enough to want to sink a hundred+ hours into it.
I hear it's pretty good, but I feel utterly played out with Viking stuff for a good long while yet, like I did for zombie stuff beforehand.
Also, Ubisoft and Guillemot's NFT enthusiasm really disappointed me, even if they're trying to pretend otherwise now. They already nickel and dime pretty bad.
So I'm firmly in wait-and-see mode for AC these days, despite having been all in for the series for a long time.

I started Odyssey this evening. Considering the last AC game I played was Black Flag, the change in combat mechanics has been incredibly jarring. Alexios/Kassandra being incredibly fleet footed when simply moving around is going to take some getting used to as well.

Yeah, there's a huge change in combat between Syndicate and the action RPG's like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Like, Bayek and especially Kassandra and Eivor don't even really have to bother with stealth if you just go straight combat builds with them. Though it's still fun to sneak around and hidden blade stabby stab with them (or in Kassandra's case, Spear of Leonidas stabby stab).
Speaking of Valhalla, just finished the Hordafylke arc. Though I had to revisit the area to pick up a weapon I missed there the first time.

Odyssey was the first AC I had played in a few years and it was incredibly jarring, but once I caught on to it I f***ing fell in love with that game.

I always favoured stealth in previous games, though I suppose if it's possible to just go full juggernaut with a strong combat build I might switch things up.

I really should finish Valhalla at some point. I just stopped playing it after putting a bunch of hours in it
I did find it more enjoyable than Odyssey which I think the world was too big but a fun game

F***ing people up with poisoned weapons was a game changer in Origins for me that really sold me on the new mechanics Argument can be made they are due for another change but the current system they got works as they keep trying to do something new to it tho they have talked changes for the next games I believe

I couldn't get into these games until Origins, and then only on PC for some reason. I tried the console version and hated it. Ended up loving Origins for PC and now I'm playing through Odyssey. The combat is so much fun, whether I'm in the mood to stealth or hack & slash. These games are to me what Elder Scrolls are for other people. The main quest is alright, but I really enjoy just running around, discovering new locations, doing quests, and just getting lost in it.
P.S. My dream is that one day they'll make an AC: Conan the Barbarian. A massive, fully realized Hyboria to explore with Conan himself, would be a dream come true.

I really should finish Valhalla at some point. I just stopped playing it after putting a bunch of hours in it I did find it more enjoyable than Odyssey which I think the world was too big but a fun game Combat is a lot tighter in Valhalla than Odyssey IMO. The world is huge in Valhalla, too, but splitting up the open world to several sub-worlds did a lot to make it feel more manageable in size. Though Odyssey is a bit better with its fast travel options since they patched in harbors to serve as that instead of just viewpoints. The inventory management in Valhalla is also a massive improvement over Odyssey (and Origins for that matter). No more looting lots of random useless armor and there's a set amount of in-game equipment you can use or upgrade to your heart's content. Choice comes down to style synergy and item bonuses than just raw stats.
I like Kassandra more as a protagonist than Eivor and Ancient Greece is visually far more pleasing than Heptarchy-era England. But I like playing Valhalla more than Odyssey.

I loved what a cheesy dork Alexios was. Plowing my way across Greece was incredible

I think they could did more with the raids system and being able to set up camps to earn money and supplies and all that good stuff to help streamline some things But yeah in terms of view it isn’t as impressive as Odyssey which was gorgeous. Valhalla is better and more defined but misses some little things

Valhalla is better and more defined but misses some little things The River Raids free DLC made helped add a lot to it to the raiding system. Though that's more its own mini-mode than part of the open world. I would've liked to see something like in the Ezio trilogy and some of the other games where establishing alliances and progressing the settlement would bring in more passive income and resources via Yanli or Randvi. Also pretty impressive that they added a whole-ass Rougelike/Roguelite to the game where you play as Odin in Niflheim.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how Red handles Japan. Like will it just be parts of Honshu? Or will it include Shikoku, Kyushu, and/or Hokkaido, too? "Feudal Japan" covers a lot of ground from the end of the Heian period to the Edo period. And in AC lore, Tokugawa Ieyasu was a staunch ally of the Japanese Assassins if not an Assassin himself. There's even art of him where he has the Assassin emblem incorporated into his shogun's helmet.
Also it's going to be the first game since Syndicate with actual Assassins and Templars again, as opposed to the Hidden Ones and Order of the Ancients.

P.S. My dream is that one day they'll make an AC: Conan the Barbarian. A massive, fully realized Hyboria to explore with Conan himself, would be a dream come true. See if you can source Conan by THQ, originally for PS3/Xbox 360. A vastly under-rated hack n slash game, a bit like God of War and AC combined. Goes deep into Conan mythology (the art style based off the original books and levels like the Elephant Graveyard), brutally bloody with a range of combat and finishers, topped off by Ron Perlman voicing the big man himself.

I thought Valhalla was great, but I can 1000% promise you I don't give a shit about Basim enough to spend $70 to learn about his origin.
