Pretty unhappy about the news. I adore the new RPG AC’s. I sank SO MANY hours into Valhalla.

I think there is something to be said about how big they were making them but they found a good center with Valhalla after how damn big Odyssey was Personally I thought Odyssey threw so much shit at you in terms of open-world busywork and filler that it became overwhelming. Way too much bloat. I heard Valhalla was a lot better in this regard, but if they want to divide the series between expansive RPG progression and the more focused "traditional" games like the Ezio trilogy or even Black Flag, I'd appreciate that. There is something to be said about appreciating being able to just focus on a couple of sprawling cities instead of vast stretches of open world regions.
Also, the "Assassin's Creed Red" game based in feudal Japan with ninjas has my immediate interest.

I honestly much preferred Odessey to Valhalla. More esthetically pleasing to the eyes and I found the sailing in it to be more entertaining. Plus I love ancient Greece and its mythology more than I do the Nordic and English setting personally.

I'm looking forward to this. I've wanted to revisit the setting of the first game ever since Ubisoft finally figured out how to make the AC games good.
It's worth noting that three other games were also announced:

I played the first game years ago, thought it was decently fun but never really played any of the others. Thought about picking it up during its frequent $6 sales on Xbox but kind of just endlessly hesitant to give Ubisoft money.

I'm looking forward to this. I've wanted to revisit the setting of the first game ever since Ubisoft finally figured out how to make the AC games good. Not entirely the same setting. Mirage takes place in Baghdad 20 years before Valhalla (with Basim from that game in the starring role, though he hailed from Constantinople at the time) during the height of the Abbasid Caliphate. The original game was in what's now Syria, Israel, and Palestine during the Third Crusade.
I am surprised that Ubisoft never did a remaster or remake of the first game with updated controls and gameplay. I still can't believe how huge a leap there is just between AC1 and AC2.
I do like that Mirage is a "back to basics" approach. Recent games have gotten so far away from what the series was at its core that you sometimes need a reminder what made the series so popular in the first place.
Wonder what this Hexe thing is. It apparently takes place during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire and "hexe" is itself German for "witch."

Ok, so every Mythology in Human history are the Isu, right? So, the Jotnar you see in Eivor's visions, they are super tall, blue skinned and can shape shift. Could all Isu do this or what was going on there?

Could all Isu do this or what was going on there? {Spoiler}The Jotnar are Isu, yes. I think the way Eivor sees her visions is as a mixture of Isu history/genetic memory and the Norse beliefs in them as gods and religious figures. Like three of the leaders of the Jotnar in her visions are meant to be the Roman trio of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva. Just... with Norse names and Jotnar appearances there lol.

The Ragnarok DLC makes things more confusing as Dwarves are all naturally small-built and the Sons of Muspell literally look like they are made of fire. And there's Loki just looking like a regular person but his son Fenrir literally being a giant, sentient wolf. It was all rather befuddling.

The original game was in what's now Syria, Israel, and Palestine during the Third Crusade. Yeah, when I meant revisiting the setting I meant the Islamic Golden Age in general, which the original game technically was, albeit in the waning years. It's a particularly fascinating time period. Funnily enough, judging from the dates given in Valhalla, Mirage takes place a generation or two after the formation of the Abbasid Caliphate while the original game takes place a generation or two before its abolition. I wonder if that's intentional? I figure there's just no real demand for it. It really would need to be remade from the ground up, as the general repetitiveness of the game has aged really poorly. It really shows its roots as an intended linear Prince of Persia game. If anything I'm surprised we've never gotten a full remake of the Ezio Trilogy. Those games would truly benefit from a modern game engine.
