I thought Stokley was going to be providing MJF’s new goon squad, but his promo felt designed to distance himself from a long term relationship. Which I get, since it’s been established that the MJF character is too toxic to keep long term friends. The On retainer part seems to be indicating MJF will use them on an "as needed" basis Stokely and MJF are friends, those other guys are just on the payroll

As crap as I thought that promo was any criticism of Stokely trying to get himself over is ridiculous. Of course he is! That's the idea of a manager, he has to be over first, then he can help get the others over. Doesn't work otherwise.
If that's a critism months later then it's a problem.

If you're gonna have a stable called the Firm you've got to put Penelope Ford in it.

I quite enjoyed the promo myself and yeah if Stokley doesn’t get over then why would the crowd give a crap about any of his guys?
Also I thought he helped started getting them over by addressing each one of them and their goals specifically

Ethan Page doesn't need to be in this group any more than he needed to be paired with Dan Lambert. The guy can wrestle and talk, just put him on TV. W.Morrissey if working heel would be better off as MJF's new muscle replacing and targeting Wardlow.
I know Moriarty is a good wrestler, and hopefully this helps him out. No idea about the Assboys becoming a serious threat.
Stokley's a great talker, and hopefully can get this over, but not a great debut IMO.

The faction is an embarrassment. Whether it was under Vince or it’s TK, it’s incredibly depressing to watch talent just sit there and be wasted or exposed live on television. Wasted potential is so sad. Why is Page in this group? If you’re gonna bring, uh, W… Morrissey.. back, is this the presentation he deserves? I mean, maybe he does??
And Stokely. Goddamn. If he didnt wanna work under Vince, I get it. But this sucks just as much.

Ethan Page doesn't need to be in this group any more than he needed to be paired with Dan Lambert. The guy can wrestle and talk, just put him on TV. Ethan literally cut a live promo after the initial Firm promo. This IS putting him on TV and setting him up for a title program. Stokely isn't going to overshadow him like Lambert did imo.

AEW has never operated under the mind set of “guy can’t talk, give him a mouth piece/put him in a stable” as a solution. This mindset needs to go away when in regards to AEW. Mangers and stables are more prominent so of course a group could have multiple talkers. Team Taz had both Starks and Taz who could talk, and Hobbs low key could hold his own and is really good since break up.
It’s one of those “WWE” mindsets I just don’t think applies to AEW.

It’s one of those “WWE” mindsets I just don’t think applies to AEW. I don't think it's even a WWE mindset, since Vince seemed like he didn't even really pair managers with non-talkers very much. I think it's more that the extended time period when WWE especially used heel authority figures instead of managers, while neglecting some poor mic workers who could have used one, made "give a manager to a non-talker" such a standard talking point that it obscured some of the other uses of managers. Managers can provide stability in a promotion as it cycles through talent, they can create connective tissue between unrelated wrestlers, they can play off their clients, they can just add to the idea that their client has money and People For That.

Pair him with one of the longest running and biggest Heels in the company with Bobby, and to give Ric an entourage to make him look like a bigger deal.

It’s a step slightly backwards for MJF. He doesn’t need a group of mute goons. It’s like..God, haven’t we done this already?
