What are your thoughts on this? I remember Randy Savage was gone for almost a year in 1998 and then made an odd appearance at the end of 1998 on the night after Starrcade. He had the look he had in 1999 with the hair plugs and ponytail, as well as that young babe with him, whom we didn't know at the time. Then in April of 1999, he made his return at Spring Stampede, as well as now we found out who the hottie with him was as she was called Gorgeous George. I also recall Savage having gained a lot more muscle mass at the time and dying his hair jet black. Also, he dressed a certain way consisting of a leather driver cap (he wore it backwards, too), as well as those garish sparkly shirts at times and leather pants. Everyone said he went through a midlife crisis at the time. Also, was he supposed to be a face at first and then turned heel? I couldn't tell.
What did you think of this?

I think people shit on the look a bit much, but yeah, it was obvious he was trying to reinvent himself, but the steroids were a bad idea. He just looked uncomfortable, even if he wasn't quite as bad as British Bulldog in his final days in WCW, where he looked like he could barely breathe.
Still, it was unfortunate. If it was just the hair and outfits, it wouldn't have been as bad, but I get the drive he had. Getting a much younger girlfriend puts a lot of these guys in a position of trying too hard to keep up with them, plus he was getting dunked on for being a relic in like his first year of WCW, so of course it was going to be worse still a few years in. Luger was going through the same thing, just not quite as badly.

The good news: Savage got Molly Holly got a job!
Word is she won the "Miss Madness" pageant in Rio de Janeiro.

You could tell he was going crazy on roids around that time.

I liked the look. It was still over the top, but modern.

I think that look was awesome. Not seen much of his work from that time, however.

He looked like he was about to explode, had 3 women out with him, ring work had noticeably declined, this was completely the Macho Mid Life Crisis.

It was weird to me as he was big as a house and I preferred his old look with the tassles on his ring gear and Pomp & Circumstance as his theme song.

Don't forget this Savage gave us the infamous white hummer angle, a bunch of random spots with sewage, and the return of Sid.

The new ring attire was great. His new entrance music was awesome. The awkward looking bulkiness and obvious decline in what he could do in the ring was the real problem with his '99 run.

Much like Hogan at the same time it was like watching a man force us to sit through his midlife crisis in real time. Definitely wasn't a hit with me

Midlife crisis Savage kinda ruins his overall WCW tenure for me. He was gassed out of his mind, and outside of his completely shoehorned title win in order to drop it to Hogan, he really didn't do anything of note...he was kinda just there. Had his run ended with the DDP feud, it improves his whole tenure leaps and bounds.

Yeah, this was one of the biggest examples of midlife crisis ever.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't really like it either.

He also started hurting people with the elbow in 99. Charles Robinson suffered a collapsed lung after taking one and he also injured DDP's ribs (no wonder he always wore that tape). Didn't they even turn it into an angle? I vaguely remember I want to say Evan Karagias getting injured by Savage's elbows. I do think that one was kayfabe though.
I think it was partly due to the added muscle he had put on plus apparently his knees were completely shot so he couldn't protect his opponent and land like he used to and would just land full force. 2022 Jeff Hardy was basically the same. He was so broken down he just started straight up hitting the swanton for real and coming down on people like a ton of bricks.

On second thought, I don't remember Savage coming back.
But Bonesaw had a weird run in '99 WCW.

Does anybody remember his one-off appearance in 2000 when he crashed that battle royal and was said to be a member of the Millionaires Club? Obviously he didn't come back after that, but what did you think of that? I found it random.

Liked the look and if he was 10 years younger and had the same abilities it is def something that could had legs but he was roided to the gills and looked like he was ready to explode

Macho Man is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time... but the 99 run was... not good.
He was a shell of his former self, and as stated was gassed to the gills.
Hanging out with a bunch of women like half his age, going from the classic Pomp and Circumastances to "whatup mach?!" generic guitar riff, and like everything else read very much like a midlife crisis.

A Midlife Crisis gimmick can work. Just look at Jericho. But Savage was the other side of that coin. Dude was totally roided out and a shell of his former self. It was hard to watch.
