A Midlife Crisis gimmick can work. Just look at Jericho. But Savage was the other side of that coin. Dude was totally roided out and a shell of his former self. It was hard to watch. I mena htat's kinda it... Jericho is doing a Mid-life crisis GIMMICK. Macho Man was just openly having a midlife crisis.

I remember he called Kevin Nash a "stupid pers-ee-on" on a Nitro leading to the Great American Bash 99

I like all eras of the Macho Man and his new theme starting with "What up Mach".

Macho Man is and has always been one of my very favorite wrestlers of all time, so kudos to him for being able to come up with a persona where I couldn't stand him.

Didn't macho have a pretty good 1998 as well? He didn't really need to have some.major character makeover. He was darn good as it was

He was darn good as it was If you mean his feud with Hogan and his brief run with the NWO Wolfpac, then I would say yes. It would have been interesting to see him come back in 1999 with the muscle shirts with ripped-off sleeves, the bandana, and garish colors that he had before he joined the NWO.

Didn't he have some weird promo where he wondered if an idol (or something) was a type of bird? Maybe that was later.

A guy that clearly can’t go like he used to so he gets pumped full of roids and viagra is a story as old as time. lol
This was around the time when Macho started beefing with people at random places, got into a fight with Hawk at a Kid Rock show or something.
Major mid-life crisis his last few years in the business. Seems like once he got out he accepted things better.

Macho Man was the one who got me into wrestling the first time I saw him on TV. I loved his whole persona with the bright colors, aerial moves, and crazy promos. I however did not like his midlife crisis run in 1999 whatsoever. It still bugs me all these years later that his last PPV match was against Dennis Rodman.

His last PPV match is teaming with Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles vs Kings of Wrestling (Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarret, Scott Hall)

It's frustrating what happened with him because some of the more interesting stuff in early 98 was him going crazy in the nWo and fighting with Hogan as his kind of Starscream character to Hogan's Megatron lol

The new ring attire was great. His new entrance music was awesome. The awkward looking bulkiness and obvious decline in what he could do in the ring was the real problem with his '99 run. Agreed.
He needed to freshen things up and I dug the new look and theme, but all the roids really drained him of any lingering in-ring ability.

Dude was stiffer than a corpse in a strip club.

Come to think of it, I remember hearing back in the WWF days (1985-1993), he was insisting on rehearsing the ppv matches he was having matches with, which is why he had some many classic matches back then (Hogan, Steamboat, Warrior. Flair to name a few)? I don't recall this being a thing once he joined WCW by late 1994? Maybe that and the advancing age lead to him not having many great matches during WCW run (DDP and Flair matches may be the exceptions)?

The 1997 jump off the shittiest cage in main stream wrestling severely messed up his knees and he had to have double knee surgery which is another reason why his 99 run he was as immobile as he was.

I think DDP said that the reason why his feud with Savage was so great is that they both liked to rehearse and go over everything ahead of time

As a whole, I’m with the general consensus BUT the only time I ever saw Savage wrestle live was during this phase.
Yes, it was Midlife Crisis Savage vs THE DISCIPLE (hot match 10 years earlier) at a THUNDER TAPING (hot ticket never)….but dammit, I got to see my favorite wrestler of all-time live and in person once.
