After watching this year's NXT Halloween Havoc, I got to thinking about the old Halloween Havoc shows. I noticed when I searched for it on Peacock that there was the old WCW shows. But which shows are worthwhile? I heard 1997 was good. I could watch 1998. As for 1999, well, that has Russo written all over it. Care to give me some recommendations?

90 and 91. Both fun shows where they went all in on the Halloween theme.

It should've been 1998. On paper that card looks like one of the greatest in wrestling history but most of it didn't deliver.
I think 96 is my favorite. The first Hogan-Savage match in years, the Outsiders winning the tag titles, a good undercard and Piper debuting at the end of the show.
I've always had a soft spot for 1999 too. It's Russo's first PPV so you know there's dumb stuff (Hogan laying down for Sting) but I was such a mark for the Goldberg-Sid feud and really looking forward to that match. I think it's arguably the last big WCW match that had genuine hype behind it. By 1999 WCW standards it got a big buyrate but the company would never come close to that number ever again.

I'm sure it's not the greatest, but I love '95, especially all the absurdity around the monster trucks, the Giant falling off the building, Schiavone and Heenan pretending that the Giant is dead, the Jimmy Hart swerve, the YETAY humping Hogan. It never gets old.

The best in bell-to-bell action? 1990
The best in silly entertainment? 1995

96 might be the best pay-per-view that year in a year of WCW's best pay-per-views.

I want to say 97, but Hogan/Piper is bad.
98 is tainted by Hogan/Warrior.
I'll go with 96

I never thought I would hear anybody enjoyed Halloween Havoc 99. That is an awful show. Not even awful like HH 95, hahaha it's kind of campy and fun kind of bad. HH 99 is one of the worst atrocities ever committed to the wrestling business. HH 99 has the stench of Russo all over it. And the Russo stench smells like a hobo's balls.

I fast forwarded through and watched the important matches of Halloween Havoc 89 last weekend. All the big matches delivered. Although that main event cage match isn't nearly as awesome as I remember it being when I was 10, it's still entertaining.
I'll always have a soft spot for HH 90 as it was the first WCW PPV I actually watched the build-up for on TV every week.

89 is my favorite. One of the first PPVs that I ever saw and I was a huge fan of Muta, Funk, and Sting. Road Warriors vs. Skyscrapers is a fun brawl too.

1995 all the way. Some good in-ring stuff (Johnny B Badd/DDP, Sabu vs Mr JL (looking at it now it's nothing but it was spectacular for the time especially if you had never seen Sabu before), Flair & Sting vs Pillman/Anderson), some fun storytelling (Luger, the Flair swerve) and the absurdness that is Hogan vs Giant.

1990. It has some great action, the cool gritty NWA/WCW aesthetic, and.. The Black Scorpion.

In my uneducated opiion, this is close to a perfect answer.

Have the missing matches from the early Halloween Havocs on the Network been restored?

Have the missing matches from the early Halloween Havocs on the Network been restored? No. I've been waiting for them to upload the full version of Halloween Havoc 90 since the day the network launched in 2014. I watched HH 90 last night and it's still the 2 hour Turner hatchet job. 🤬 As far as I know this is the only WCW PPV on the network that is like this. The in ring action still holds up. In particular the tag matches, except for the Freebirds. That was my bathroom break match. The hokeyness of the Black Scorpion is fun nostalgia if you grew up on it. If you didn't you would understandably think it was the dumbest thing you've ever seen. And the end of the main event is confusing as hell, although still nowhere near as confusing as the end of Halloween Havoc 99. This is still one of my favorite shows to rewatch.

I had seen Sabu in ECW for a while already, but I watched Halloween Havoc 95 with 2 fans that had never seen him before and they were blown away. And one of them thought the Sheik was the Iron Shiek from the WWF. 😆
