Padres looking hard at Jose Abreu Mariners are interested in Gleyber Torres Giants are interested in Kenley Jansen Twins acquire Kyle Farmer; Reds acquire Kevin Newman -What more do the Padres need? I get that you're in essentially an arms race with the Doyers, but damn. -Gleyber struggled in a Little League home park, how is he gonna rebound in one of the worst hitters parks in the league? -That honestly sounds terrible for the Giants. Jansen blew up a number of times last year, and seems to be closer to the end of his career. Meanwhile Doval seemed to really hit his stride last year, and has a bright future. Not sure why you'd bring in a volatile closer who muddies their closer situation rather than targeting a quality middle reliever who doesn't.

My assumption on Abreu they don't expect to get back Bell and they are probably going to let Drury and Myers walk I think Gleyber is the "cheaper option" instead of spending big on one the SS on the market as they want to keep Crawford there. They are also checking in on Kolton Wong. My guess is they try to offer Yankees some pitching and Yanks have young options in the INF so Gleyber can be moved for additional help

Red Sox aren't looking for major pitching arms
Lugo, Heaney etc are their radar on top of trying to bring Hill or Evoaldi

He's a good fielder, and Gleyber is not. And as batters, they're kind of a wash at this point.

Gleyber is fine as a second baseman, but he was an awful shortstop.

Mets and Verlander spoke on a zoom meeting today
He's their fallback option if they can't get DeGrom to come back

Mets are also interested in Jameson Tallion
They are basically going to knock on a lot of doors to fill up that rotation

In other news, the Jays have been looking at bringing in Brandon Nimmo. And I'm still bitter about that Hernandez trade.

He's been pretty bad offensively the last couple of years so it would be a "buy low and pray that he's fixable" situation. Nimmo gives me Jacoby Ellsbury/Dexter Fowler vibes. He'll sign a big contract and then level off big time.

Well on one hand, I think Nimmo is glistening in the "any Met who wasn't terrible wearing our Uniform is a legend" trope and really isn't anything special. But on the other hand, ex Mets tend to do well for a little while when they go somewhere else.

I really hope the rangers get some pitching. A lot of pitching if they want to compete at all.

Yankees have already made Judge a massive offer reportedly Giants are to meet with him tomorrow Word's going around Hal offered Judge 9 years at $337M, and while Judge is expected to listen to offers from the Giants and Dodgers before the winter meetings, they don't expect those to go past their pitches. Both Judge & Hal have expressed mutual interest in not dragging the negotiations on and to get a deal done ASAP. Judge has also promised Hal the Yanks will get the final word, so the decision will ultimately be Hal's. Recently polled front office guys have it at 80% or better Judge commits with the Yanks, and multiple sources around Judge believe that he wants to see Hal's commitment to fielding better players around him. It's rumored that Judge wants the Yankees to move on from Josh Donaldson, and the Yankees are now apparently looking at moving Donaldson. Something worth keeping in mind. Judge was also very frustrated with Hicks, viewing him as having quit on the team once he lost his job to Cabrera. Executives are saying that they expect the pitching market to heat up the soonest with the position players happening after the winter meeting. The Yankees are said to be in the market for both a starter and a high-leverage LHRP. They've already had a meeting with Andrew Chafin. However, deGrom or Rodon aren't expected because they see deGrom as an extremely risky investment due to his age and injury concerns, especially at 5 years. Rodon is looking for something along the lines of 7 years at $245M. They are both tied to QO, so that makes it even more unlikely. Verlander is seen as the best short term option. And the Yankees have expressed heavy interest in Michael Brantley, which comes off as a 100% Cashman move. TLDR version, these are rumored to be the Yanks' priorities: 1)Judge 2)Pitching, both a starter and reliever 3)LF 4)Trying to move JD & Hicks' contracts 5)Maybe use Torres as part of a package to acquire a starter

Could the Yankees package Torres with Hicks or Donaldson to get rid of them?

Could the Yankees package Torres with Hicks or Donaldson to get rid of them? I doubt it but it’s not impossible as Twins did that to get Gary. They might have to accept bad contract for bad contract in regards to Hicks but Donaldson only has one more year so if they really really don’t want him they can just cut him and eat the money
