This argument would work if Twitter didn't seemingly handpick the most toxic comments to be at the top of every thread. I don't go out of my way to seek assholes but it was like trying to dodge raindrops. Mm-hmm. Even with subjects where people meant well it was always the nastiest or angriest folks with the most clicks and who would always spread the fastest. Not to mention all the light hearted subjects that became unnecessarily serious. Good for those who are able to get something positive from the platform, but the way Twitter operated (pre-Musky) was destroying my mental health. I had to bail for my sake. They realised they get more engagement with content when people are furious all the time than they do when they just tweet with friends and loved ones, so decided to make money from the toxicity. Once I realised they were actively feeding me content designed to piss me off, with no means to prevent attempts to point me at things like the daily mail or telegraph, I just gave up.

You know its funny, between a combination of browser apps to customize the experience (no trending topics seen) and being very specific with settings (select retweets turned off, no user likes visible, virtually no recommended users popping up) my overall Twitter experience hasn't been too bad. If they site made personal curation more intuitive, I think we'd all be better off.

I’m more curious about what the “Jim’s Drugs” replacement to Twitter will be that we’ll have to tear down in 10 years for getting too big.

I’ve never understood people’s problem with twitter. I’ve been on that bitch since February 2009. See all you have to do is…follow the people, sports teams, movies or sites you already like and it gives you this feed of information you curated yourself. If you go on Twitter and see all assholes and idiots…it’s literally on you. Eh, it used to be that way, but even Pre-Musk it had changed for the worse, shutting down routes for people to enjoy the platform without algorithm and ad driven BS. There used to be a huge ecosystem of clients, mobile sites that worked without jumping through hoops to avoid a million ads, but that went away to funnel people towards more monetizable versions of the service. I noticed too, despite being LGBTQ+ the algorithm would continually bombard me with TERF trending topics and articles from right wing tabloids and websites, despite my blocking the accounts tweeting the links. 90% of my activity on the site were replies to friends and talking 80s pop music, but that didn't spare me being targeted by the firehose of sewage. Yeah, my blocklist is past 70,000 people just to make the place less miserable to use.

I'm staring at an email that came in yesterday from an elected official saying that my office should have a Twitter account to post public updates.
I'm just going to pretend I didn't see it and by the time they follow up in 2 weeks maybe Twitter won't exist.

Elon Musk is a cockrash. He was a cockrash before he bought Twitter. He’s a cockrash now. I feel you are being very unfair towards cockroaches with that comparison.

I just love the chaos he is causing entertaining if nothing else.
Twitter has long needed to be purged.

LOL, and people really think this clown is going to colonize Mars? Without his daddy's money, he could barely run a lemonade stand.

It ain't dying.
People are just making a big to-do about nothing, and they'll log into their accounts tomorrow, and find something else stupid to bitch about.

The worst I've had from trolls is one adding me to a list of users with certain political views so I blocked them.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling, but there’s a good chance that people soon actually won’t be able to log in, or if they do the site will still not be functional. For my part I still deleted the throwaway account I had, because the email is linked to some credit card transactions, and the chance of Twitter being successfully hacked right now is off the charts.

Is it actually dying or just hyperbole? Lots and lots of hyperbole. And besides Elon has already made a huge play by offering content creators on youtube a 10% pay increase to jump ship to twitter. Only issue is twitter atleast right now is not made for long form videos and the like.

I'm mixed about this. On one hand it would save me time and anxiety. A lot of the negativity is there, moreso than FB and Insta. Though I saw some of my personal worst bullying incidents on those instead. Also, people I know are more active on FB/IG. And honestly you can do more on the other forums. I know there's celebrities there, but seldom do they tweet back.
And yet...I met a lot of people there and don't know if they are on other socials. There have been times that I've been liked by other celebs I like, even heard from them. I do most of my chatting about Ghosts (CBS and BBC) there, without worrying about debate as to which is better. And the cast reaches out to their fans there. People post some cool old school ads and wrestling clips there.
Such is when you see things on both sides.

Only issue is twitter atleast right now is not made for long form videos and the like. Successful YT creators are sure to be lining up to go work for an egomaniacal asshole who just lost way more than half his staff with his antics, on a site that certainly isn’t secure and may not even be functional shortly.

Meh, it is like us saying WWE was dying last year. Very grim but I doubt it. Hope it's more far fetched than 1999 when we thought that couldn't happen to WCW.
