I don’t think it’s a controversial view to call Elon Musk a wanker.

Is there really a down side to Twitter dying? If I don't get the rest of Adam Pearce singing "Never Gonna Give You Up", I will be very sad. But hopefully he posts it on Facebook.

Elon Musk is a cockrash. He was a cockrash before he bought Twitter. He’s a cockrash now. I feel you are being very unfair towards cockroaches with that comparison. I didn’t say cockroach. (Unless they have a rash on their cock).

Is there really a down side to Twitter dying? It was important as a platform for people organising protests during the Arab Spring, and I’m sure in other instances as well. There’s no putting the genie back in the bottle, even if Twitter goes under something similar will take it’s place. Hopefully that would be run by someone who realises it is possible to strike a balance between a free public space and a complete unmoderated hellscape full of people spewing alt-right talking points with no pushback because “free speech”.

I know Twitter matters to some people, but this might be the biggest “Oh no, anyway…” reaction I’ve ever had to anything.

It being completely free for both sides to push back against one another without bullshit like shadowbans etc is what is making twitter actually worth while again IMO and is largely why Elon took it over to allow that freedom. And there are plenty of alternates to twitter out there because spoiler twitters code is not complicated at all....there is mastadon which I believe is open source as just an example of one of the many alternatives.....but see the thing with them is it is heavly leaning towards one side of people. And it is just the nature of the game right now.

There's one thing Musk should have learned early on – platforms built on unlimited "free speech" either die a quick death or linger in the purgatory of fringe websites burning a hole in their backers' pockets. Advertisers and investors want nothing to do with such sites, and the trolls quickly chase away any legitimate users. Of course, it was never about free speech for Musk. The guy just wanted to shut down everybody who was making fun of him, so seeing it completely blow up in his face and make him the biggest laughing stock in the western world is extremely gratifying.

LOL, and people really think this clown is going to colonize Mars? Without his daddy's money, he could barely run a lemonade stand. Can you imagine the years long journey to Mars lead by Elon Musk, trapped in a cramped ship for years on end where you're entirely dependent on Space x to live so subject to his whims? Three months in space and he'd be trying to have people put out of airlocks. SpaceX made it clear that they will not abide by any earth laws should they set up a colony in space, that is chilling.

Even getting past the whole free speech aspect he demonstrated he was a total moron by completely destroying the verification system and in the process likely opening the site to lawsuits, breaking laws that came out of previous lawsuits, and just making the entire thing even more of a joke that advertisers were never going to want any part of, to say nothing of the likelihood that him immediately killing the same program likely led to many, many people rushing to get their money back after not being given their full month which would cost the associated banks a f***ton and likely make them not want to work with him again either.
On every level it's been a total disaster.

Funnily enough just got a 12 hour suspension from there at 4 am for suggesting one of the engineers Musky fired live via tweet should punch him in the face.
Interesting how Mr free speech absolutist is cool w all manner of racism on his platform but if you say someone should ktfo Musky it's out of bound.
Is a private platform so of course not a free speech issue, but the idiot has been framing things that way even before buying it.
Dumb bastard

So some of the responses here are a bit annoying but eh.

And it is just the nature of the game right now. Musk bought the site out of ego and the desire to be able to f*** with his critics. Remember he didn't even want to do that much, Twitter had to threaten to bring suit to enforce the sale. There was nothing magnanimous about it. Twitter is also a business, and businesses generally don't want their ads showing up on the profile of a guy with a Hitler pic and AnalSwastika420 as a username. Elon can champion that guy's right to free speech all he wants, that's still basically turning down the only way the site makes money. You're giving him a huge benefit of the doubt that I don't think he's done anything to earn.
