Refresh my memory, what was the difference between "The Big Valbowski" and "Val Venis?" Was it just a name and haircut difference? Just a name change. He already had the short hair from his RTC days. Why they felt like renaming an established character who had been on TV for 4 years I have no idea. Trying to be more PG? Which wouldn't have made sense considering the Ruthless Aggression era set out to try and get those AE viewers back and failed?

It's my joint most pointless renaming with WCW calling Luger "The Total Package" "you mean the nickname he's already had for years?" "Ah, but now it's his ONLY name!"

I guess naming him after the nickname for his penis might sound better than literally naming him something that is one letter change away from literally being the word Penis? It’s stupid either way, agreed.

Tommy Dreamer eating/drinking disgusting things such as Undertaker's tobacco spit and carrying around a bucket of vomit.

Oh, here's a short lived repackaging that seemed dumb to me: the "localized" Hardcore Championship belts, as shown in these replicas someone made. (though I will be honest and originally I thought Dreamer just slapped the license plate on Bradshaw's version when he won it).

It’s like with the brand split and the name change, they tried so hard to reset everything and they had to change everybody. Probably might be the most jarring year of change between one era and another.
And while it is objectively bad, I kinda dug Reverend D-Von, because I felt D-Von totally pulled it off.

I don't know if it's peak worst but the first two that came to mind are: Reverend D-Von: Against Masturbation Farooq: Fan of Masturbation And then they got thrown together as a team during the last few months of Reverend D-Von's existence, which was blatant buyer's remorse from WWE at breaking up the Dudleys and the APA in the draft. LMAO at D-Von with the Jesus fish t shirt and Farooq with the Satanic pants. Best odd couple tag team ever. lol

Evil Godfather and The Big Valbowski for me, just because they were totally pointless and lame.
At least I understood the purpose of the other ones, those two were just WWE changing something because "look, they're different now!"

I love that Big Valbowski is winning because despite being one of the most "nothing's changed" repackagings it immediately disgusts you seeing it
Like literally everyone I've ever watched 2002 RAW with in the last year has been like Jesus f***ing Christ seriously whenever they first saw THE BIG VALBOWSKI

Made sense since his priest character was a conman. Back on topic, 2002 was one big identity crisis for the WWF/E. Like, they brought back guys from yesteryear(Ric Flair, Mr. Perfect, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels) etc etc, while also trying to establish new guys(Rey Mysterio, Booker T, Randy Orton, Eddie Guerrero, RVD, John Cena etc etc), all while trying to keep(or pathetically amplify) their Attitude Era edge. They were all over the place.

f***, just remembered an incredibly obscure one that has to be mentioned. Billy & Chuck after the wedding hoax where either their gear or their hair didn't match anymore cause they were serious straight competitors and oh my god Faarooq beat the dogshit out of Chuck Palumbo the one time I saw that The Billy and Chuck storyline has aged horrifically tbh Like it was groundbreaking at the time to play it so serious to the point they were getting mainstream media attention and were on LATE NIGHT TALK SHOWS about it... but when time came to actually commit, everyone was like "Wait no, we're not gay, this was all a publicity stunt!", they literally said that during the angles climax, like what a low blow to anyone watching who actually bought in to these characters, cause Billy and Chuck flatlined as an act after that AND THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE BABYFACES IN DENOUNCING THE GAY WEDDING lmfao, Rico and Three Minute Warning were the heels. Posts like this are why I love you even though we get heated sometimes

39 years of history flushed down the toilet. Or as Bruce Prichard explains it, "the best thing that ever happened to the company." God, I loathe that stooge.

He and Batista had some kind of falling out. But Steph had them penciled in as a team for the Smackdown tag title tournament. She told DVon he was up next and he better find Batista and get out there. DVon came out with Ron instead. No explanation given. Batista would turn up on Raw soon after.

Wasn’t Faarooq running a gambling racket for a minute? I remember him betting on whether Mark Henry could rip telephone books and break chains and so forth.
Did this even happen? lol

It's one step removed from if WCW had just suddenly exclusively started calling Bam Bam Bigelow the Beast From the East and pretending that was his actual ring name the entire time, it'd just be weird.

How about Batista going from Deacon Batista to angry foster child who sees Ric Flair as a father figure Batista? On a side note, was it ever implied Batista was the same character as The Deacon? I don’t think they ever referenced it post repackaging.
