I forget which year's King of the Ring, but Owen Hart vs 1-2-3 Kid. It's very short, but unrelenting, and has one of the best starts of any match for catching the unwary off guard. 1994

It's soooooooo good. Spoliers ahead for those wo haven't watched it. You really should. It's that good. Watched it? Still with us? Ok, then! Kid comes off a surprise win against Jeff Jarrett (that's Jay-Eee, double-Tee, Ha-ha, Double-Jay, A, double-Arr, Eee, double- eFF: Jeff Jarrett, and don't you forget it!) and gets completly destroyed for his efforts. And as Kid is makng ing his way into the semi-finals... Just watch the match, it's a master class in wresling psychology and action..

For sheer spectacle and storytelling, I'd say Hogan vs. Andre from WrestleMania III. Like it's been said, the unstoppable force vs. the immovable object and both men play their roles to utter perfection. Along with the crowd and their reactions, it's everything that pro-wrestling can be.

Genichiro Tenryu vs. Randy Savage, 1990 Wrestling Summit.
Lively and large crowd, believable action that looks like a real fight, Sherri Martel as the ideal scumbag manager, and Tenryu is the valiant hero fighting against the evil loudmouth foreign icon.

Bret vs 123 Kid, Raw 1993. A great showcase for both talents, mutual respect and Bret sometimes working a bit heelish. A fantastic match.

Art Barr/Eddie Guerrero vs. Hijo del Santo/Octagon, When Worlds Collide (November 6, 1994).
Aside from the stellar ringwork and storytelling, the commentary was top notch and the crowd:
a) really loved the masked babyfaces, and, b) really, REALLY wanted to kill the heels.

Mike Awesome Vs Masato Tanaka One Night Stand 2005. Builds well, doesn't go on forever, some brutal spots and the crowd are nuts for everything.

Magnum vs Tully, I Quit in the cage. Not a technical masterpiece "performance" but not many matches feel as real as that one. Both seemed traumatized by the end of it. Tully a bit more. 😉 Tully still screaming even after Magnum lets him go is horrifying. Then Magnum goes to inflict more punishment but sees Tully's just a quivering, screaming wreck and knows he's truly won the war. Magnum winning the belt felt like an afterthought, like it didn't even really matter after the hell they just put each other through.

Randy Orton vs. Christian-May 6, 2011 Smackdown. I know the outcome was less than ideal for a lot of fans but the match was excellent and starts a great feud that goes through the summer of 2011.

Aside from Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25, I'll go ahead and say Tommaso Ciampa vs Johnny Gargano from Takeover New Orleans. Like the former, the latter is a masterclass in storytelling.

This was my first thought, it's the kind of match where if you wanted to explain to someone who had no idea what pro wrestling was all about, you'd show them this. The story is simple but yeah, it's immaculately told by everyone from the wrestlers to the audience, and even though the story was particularly emotive for the Mexican audience it's got a universality that I think everyone can appreciate and the tropes you see in it are the same ones you see in wrestling all over the world, so it translates really well.
