With Jerry Jarret passing seeing lots call Memphis the last one. And it is one I can see why it is called that.
I have seen arguements that Puerto Rico is the last territory. But really after Brody's death for me it felt like PR became less of a place people went to unless they had no choice left.

I guess a case could be made for ECW, at least before they got on TNN.

Doesn't Jacques Rougeau still run a Montreal territory?

Doesn't Jacques Rougeau still run a Montreal territory? Short answer, not anymore, medium-length answer, he had a wrestling promotion in the 90's but he didn't run that often. Then it became a no kicks, no punches, no forearms fed. It was weird, it was wrestling move, play to the crowd, wrestling move, play to the crowd for 2 hours. He did draw, in his own way, which was using his name to get meetings with companies to whom he sold tickets who would give away tickets to their employees/clients.

I think it was one of Memphis, Philly (ECW), or maybe Montreal. I think Portland died out before all of those didn't they?

Honestly it depends what the boundaries are. Like when did it have to start, how far a reach is too far, how big does it actually have to be etc

Was Memphis still going after Smokey Mountain ended? I forgot about SMW.

I would have initially said Smoky Mountain, but I'd say ECW is probably more accurate.

With its original NWA branding and ostensibly being based in Nashville, I'd consider TNA to be the last real territory until say, 2005 or so. There were other smaller NWA affiliations alongside them, but once TNA broke off its NWA affiliation, it fell apart again. And the NWA has been a shambling corpse ever since.

That Vancouver one lasted till the early 90's didn't it? It's where Mauro Ranallo got his start.

Yeah, the NWA-TNA connection were just the Jarretts being smart (or carnie depending how you look at it). They just used the NWA name to squeeze any drips of name value possible out of it and hopefully pick up some of the WCW fans who the WWF/WWE never picked up. If you watch the early NWA-TNA shows they even run spots promoting live NWA events. This made the company seem like it had a bigger scope and no doubt the zombie NWA office loved it. In actuality though some of those shows probably had less than a few dozen attendees.

The NWA had this weird habit of latching on to a super indie (ECW, TNA) that they needed way than the indie fed needed them and then managed to get chased off after nonsensically trying to big league their partners.

I mean that's kinda the story of the NWA though... WWWF realized they didn't need them and dropped them... (granted this didn't do near the damage the others did but it did at least point out that the NWA wasn't really needed) WCW eventually realized they didn't need them and dropped them... ECW...TNA...

Would OVW count? Still running shows to this day. Granted i wasn't too familiar with them during their developemental days.
Did they travel around?
