I think it's safe to say Vince Russo is not a beloved figure in pro-wrestling. A lot of his storylines and booking tropes haven't aged well and he was a big factor in WCW's downfall, but am I the only one who thought the guy was a pretty good promo? Maybe it was knowing he was also the booker, but I think he worked as the cowardly heel authority figure who you wanted to see get his comeuppance. Do you think there was a place for Russo had he been kept to purely on-screen talent.

He had trained to be a manager before he started writing, if I recall. Russo had the right delivery to get heat, and had he not actually been part of creative and was just talent he could have done decent in just that role and talk/bump for guys. Sadly, it didn’t turn out that way.

He too often put himself in positions an actual wrestler should have occupied. This isn't to say Vince wasn't a little guilty of this sometimes, but he at least would get the living shit beat out of him. Russo rarely really got much comeuppance.
I think it also didn't help that Bischoff, for his faults, was probably better at doing this character role, anyway, in large part because he would always cede the spotlight to Hogan.

mostly he was pretty obnoxious in a not-good way, but I do like that one time he put Hogan in his place and sent him packing, even if it was pretty unprofessional.

He was always a great promo, just a shame he put himself all over the product.

Russo was always using his screen time to vindicate himself or put himself over. He's a total mark for himself and it came across on television. So, no, I never found him anything but an obnoxious twit and an unwelcome presence.

Very very few heel authority roles get the comeuppance they are entitled to, and Russo wasn't one of them. If anything, he looked too competent, even if that wasn't (or maybe it was) the intent.

C'mon, this guy sucked. His level of heat could be generated by absolutely anyone else from Long Island being handed a microphone in front of a camera.

Wasn't there a spot where Flair had him in the figure four, but the 'red liquid' didn't drop from the ceiling when it supposed to, so Vince Russo of all people lasted forever in the hold?

He could talk but he never added anything and by the time he was an on screen figure in TNA his presence sucked the air out of any segment he was in

To me, Russo on-screen had energy but it was mostly the energy of like the absolute worst drunk or high dudes that you've ever had to witness or deal with. There's literally an NWA/TNA Weekly PPV where dude pretends to be sad drunk the whole episode. Why.

mostly he was pretty obnoxious in a not-good way, but I do like that one time he put Hogan in his place and sent him packing, even if it was pretty unprofessional. And opened up the company he worked for to lawsuits, and one of their biggest stars never working for them again. I refuse management at my jobs as I know I do not have the temperament to be professional. Russo should have know that as well. But that would mean he would have to be honest with himself.

I don't think he was good enough that, not with the book himself, he ever would have been put into that spot. He never developed in to naything particularly worth having on screen and even the SEX days in TNA didn't provide anything that worthwhile in his delivery. He just wrote himself and his jackoff sense of humour in to wrestling shows and made it everybody else's problem. Nothing special about him on screen, which is why the only person who ever wanted to put Vince Russo on screen was Vince Russo, and why nobody ever said "Hey Vinnie we don't want you writing the show but how would you like to come manage this guy?"

If he had no creative control, I think he could be a fun heel manager to put with guys who need a mouthpiece. The problem was he always made himself the center of attention.

He was deeply unlikeable, in a good pro wrestling way. Put him in front of a crowd and he will get booed, no matter what. The problem was he was booking and not just a d*ckhead manager getting over someone who couldn't talk, so he was far more prominant on the show than he had any right to be.
According to Russo, he trained as a wrestler under Johnny Rodz, in the same class as Big Vito so could have taken some basic bumps in the manager role, even done a few Bobby Heenan style tag matches, but again, he booked himself to be on TV, doing more than he really knew how to do so outstayed his welcome and got a bunch of concussions to make his booking even worse.

I feel like I should ban you for this >_> but yeah, I only really remember Russo doing pretty basic cheap heel I'm the boss deal with it style promos... that really did nothing to get anyone over.
