"...anything goes!"
The commercial for the 'Living in the 90s' compilation from 1995 came across my feed today so I felt inspired to re-created the 2 CD/2 Cassette tracklisting as a Spotify playlist:

Still more punk than that other compilation. I vaguely remember someone posting that video. Wasn’t it just a bunch of pop song?

The perfect compilation for the end of a long day: And oh by the way … I still put it into the CD player now and then. I popped when I heard Oxygene Part IV in GTA IV.

The Proclaimers song is 80s. Yeah, but it didn't get big in the US until it appeared on the Benny & Joon soundtrack in '93. A lot of people at the time didn't even know it wasn't a new song. So it became sort of a de facto '90s song.

I feel the need to remind you all that every bad boy, in fact, has a soft side: I seriously think this commercial had an effect on my musical taste. I never had the CDs, I was just a kid. But I love this kind of music and when I could, I sought it out.

Seeing the Freedom Rock ad as an impressionable young tyke kickstarted a lifelong obsession with psychedelic rock. My parents had those Time Life CDs, like Best of 1977, shit like that. Plus their albums and cassettes. I lived on an acreage. There was no going to the mall. So my taste in music is all classic rock.

But I love this kind of music and when I could, I sought it out. I had friends who (lovingly) teased me about getting Monster Ballads, and then one by one they all asked to borrow it haha. Definitely a taste solidifying album for me.

The Proclaimers song is 80s. Yeah but it gets grouped with the 90s stuff much like The Police or Cars first two albums end up in the 80s playlist even though they came out in 78 & 79.

In other news, they're now on "Now That's What I Call Music" #85 in North America since the series launched here in 1998!!
