He 1000% should be told "Hey f***ing don't". There's a reason they used to usep lants for spots like this and honestly I'd prefer if people didn't randomly win the Heel Lottery because you never know how down for any of this someone actually is. Hell, AEW used a plant not long with Saraya and Toni attacking that fan. I love that Saraya still hasn't been kayfabe punished for that. đ

Getting a drink thrown at you is one part of the issue. Another one unfolds right in front of us: The kid is all over social media after being humiliated. That's a big no no as well.

All Iâd heard was MJF watered a plant. And I thought that was a really novel way to turn him face. But, alas, it was a shoot. What a heel. MJF stealing Bryanâs old gimic of being Captain Planet it seems.

At this point MJF could've straight up punched that lady in the face, and the defense here would have been like "but guyyyyyyyyys....."
It's getting disturbing.

Yeah if kid wasnât a plant, then this should not be undersold. I know if that was my kid Iâd be livid, and Iâm fully aware what MJF is and is trying to do. Doesnât make it ok. If I knew beforehand and my kid was okay with it, then thatâs a different story.

I mean no, if MJF punched someone, I think the consensus here and most places would be "F*** that guy" unless they're just completely f***ing insane. Here it was water, it wasn't cool, but the kids ok and he got to meet a bunch of AEW talent and is going to another show. He's going to be ok and in the end a dumb situation turned into that kid getting some amazing moments and memories Like this is a big time x to y correlation that doesn't match to me, no one's defending what MJF did, but also he didn't f***ing punch a fan and in no way would that be defended lol, and no one here is absolving MJF of what he did, I think everyone here has said "He's lucky and hopefully he's been told to not do it again" and are happy it worked out for the kid in general. Though if you're talking other places trying to stretch this to absolve MJF, yeah that's absurd

Obviously Max is my guy but yeah, maybe leave actual children out of it next time?

Texas law doesn't apply here, by the way. California law does. The show took place in California.
Regardless it was an insanely stupid thing for MJF to do and all this did was make him unemployable elsewhere. I can't see even WWE wanting anything to do with him after that.
AEW should probably count their blessings he didn't do this on Dynamite or Rampage though because otherwise WarnerMedia would have demanded blood because a grown white man tossing water on a black child unprovoked (and the child not being in on it) is insanely bad optics.

Here's a fun wrinkle, it was apparently a drink with tequila in it, not just water.
And no, MJF didn't punch the kid in the face, but it wasn't like there was an option A and an option B here.
I'm glad that the kid is seemingly OK and is getting a bunch of free shit, but it's a larger problem with MJF. The dude is just a desperate tryhard. Maybe he should try living the gimmick just a little less for his sanity, it's leading to poor decision-making.

Regardless of if the water was going to do any damage or not, having an adult you don't know - one who you might genuinely see as a real life villain, depending on the kid's level of awareness of things - chuck something at you could still very easily seriously upset a kid. Going, "Just get over it!" is just missing the actual point.
And also personally, like, I'm 32, I know it's all fake, I'd still be pissed if I went to a wrestling show and someone threw water at me.

And apparently as I just posted, it wasn't just water, it was tequila. And yes, I'm all for being part of the show if I want to be part of the show. I got up in Dax's face at one of the AEW Newark shows and he started jawjacking at me and saying shit, but I invited it. This kid was just chilling with his hood on, probably tired, and MJF just flung tequila and water on him. Rip up somebody's sign, sure. But there's a code of respect that should be followed by folks on both sides of the railing - if somebody threw tequila at a wrestler, even in a cup, they'd be ejected from the arena, at the very least.

Yea, Tequila makes it worse
If you canât say the dude is flat out wrong for throwing a drink in a kids face (whether it is water, tequila or whatever) then I really donât know what to say on this one

Didn't like it. For an adult who knows all the context in the moment its a thrill to be involved in such a thing; for a kid its scary, confusing and embarrassing. You can get heat literally thousands of better ways.
It doesn't matter that it was 'only' liquid, or not as bad as a physical act, or tame in comparison to other things; kids don't have the wherewithal that adults do; its a really shitty thing to do.
AEW seems to have gone out of their way to make it up to him so at least there's that.

Yeah, AEW's gonna have to put some tighter boundaries on MJF's heel work. That could have ended really bad for all parties involved.

To get away from that insanity though uh. There's something real heartwarming about seeing Hobbs hanging out with the kid and showing him the giant Sonic ring to cheer him up. Just a really nice moment. Love that guy. Make him champion now.

It really doesn't when it comes to mine. But sure. Roll with that.
lol
You're comparing a wrestler spitting on a child to a wrestler lightly throwing water at a child That's... that's just not the same lol It was tequila, but as a parent, whether it was spit, water or tequila , that would have been a huge problem. Itâs a child, you donât know their frame of mind, their sensitivities to things, itâs just a huge no no.

No no no MJF if you really wanted true heel heat (And get this thread into the triple digits in under 24 hours) you should have chucked some Spindrift sparkling water or a blueberry muffin at the kid. In all seriousness though, glad things didn't go totally pear shaped and I echo the sentiment of other posters that Tony should just sit down with Max and pretty much tell him not to do something like this again.
