Roman drops the belt to Cody or someone else, probably at one of the b grade events. The new champ underwhelms the audience as wwe squandered the big pay off. They conclude the new champ is just a flop and put the title back on Roman. This is the answer, right here. Why they have this hard-on for keeping the belt on Roman, I'll never know. He's eclipsed Punk's reign handily, and there's no way in hell he's gonna touch Bruno's 2000+ day reign, or even Hogan's 1500 or so day reign.
I've heard the argument that you couldn't have the entire bloodline vanquished at one event because there'd be no credible heels left, but... whose fault is that, again?
I liked it better when they went for "records" by going for multiple title reigns. At least then you had moments where the champ would lose (even if so they could win it again) and gave them some vulnerability. I could handle Reigns being an 8-time world champion for example.

Roman gets injured and the title is vacated. Seriously. This is pro wrestling. You get hurt all the time. Booking a dude as champ for YEARS in a row is just begging for Vacant to claim the title. Roman has been more durable than Cody...

Rock would rather do a live action version of one of his own Disney animated films that isn’t even 10 years old yet than face Roman smh.

Don't know and don't care. And whenever it is, the only thing people will say is 'should've done it at Mania 39'

There were a few people on this board that were genuinely happy at last night's result. I honestly would be very interested on their thoughts as to how this continues as I cannot get my head around it from a business perspective let alone an emotional one. Hopefully someone gives us some insight from this perspective. to answer this I like Roman and the Bloodline more than Cody first and foremost. I've just never really seen much in Cody, and am of the opinion that if he wasn't Big Dust's son he'd be Ziggler level. That's just my opinion, as a lot of people do really like him and that's cool. That said, I don't think that the story calls for the Bloodline to be in ruins from Cody winning the Rumble and taking the title. The cracks have been showing for a while and they're only getting bigger. Cody had Roman doubting himself more than ever in that match and Roman's paranoia is increasing weekly as he realizes that everyone else is catching up and he's becoming more desperate. I'm fine with Cody or anyone else involved beating Roman as long as the story calls for it, I just don't think that right now is the time. Cody needs more of a story than he won the Rumble, he's Dusty's son, and he left to prove himself and came back. That's not enough for me at least. I think that if he wasn't out for months with the injury he could have had a better story built up. The business side of it is easy. An unbeatable champion will always get people watching because they want to see them lose. It's why people will tune in to a garbage Jon Jones fight, watch any time that a Dynasty team is dominating(Patriots, Cowboys, Lakers, Yankees, etc at various points), why people watched Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali in their primes, ietc. It's an easy sell to get people to want to see Goliath toppled. That's cool, I totally get the preference of Roman over Cody as a wrestler/character. In fact I will say that I never got Cody in AEW personally and whilst I think he's been good since returning back to the WWE and he is definitely over enough to warrant the big victory, he wouldn't have been my number one choice to dethrone Roman, but from a booking perspective, I got it. I think my main issue is that I just cannot see where we go from here. He's beaten everyone. We had lightning in a bottle moments with Sami and Jey that could have been something truly memorable. We had huge builds for Drew and Cody that feel like an utter waste of time now. It genuinely feels like so much business money has been left on the table going forward because it feels like they've booked themselves into a corner, as I'm not sure from a booking point of view that I can take any contender going forward seriously. Do we really think Dwayne's coming back, and if so, going to be the one to take the title? I think it's a mad booking decision, away from any emotion. I think what will happen is that he disappears for most of this year and Gunther/Theory step up to main event in his absence with their own dominant heel run, so it'll be as if he never went away.

Well, funny enough, Roman is already a 6-time world champion between both the WWE and Universal titles. Before this whole Tribal Chief run, there was a few years of stop-start "just coronate this guy and get it over with" booking.

That will further contribute to the next champion falling flat. Who is there that can provide a credible heel challenger that isn’t completely stale or will require a Jinder Mahal style push from mediocrity to #1 contender? If it is indeed Cody, the only possibility for a halfway interesting program is a returning Randy Orton. Every other possibility would be jamming a round peg in a square hole. Cody vs Osmos anyone?

Hardcore Holly, he'll beat Roman and he'll beat everyone!
Seriously though, I'm torn on if it should be Solo or Jey. I think the fans would be behind Jay being the one doing it. That said, it will be Solo

I just started a thread about it, but I'll go ahead and say it here, too:
Brock Lesnar defeats Roman Reigns with an assist from Paul Heyman at SummerSlam.

I genuinely don't know.
It doesn't feel like it can be anyone currently in the company, actually.

when he loses, I want it to be in the most insignificant and silliest way imaginable. (I.E. match starts, then Roman's opponent kicks him in the balls before the pin)

Surprised nobody has said Wyatt, or are we trying to not bring that into the universe?

Surprised nobody has said Wyatt, or are we trying to not bring that into the universe? f*** it, why not? Shit, even Uncle Howdy yeeting himself onto Roman's lifeless body to win the title would be preferable.

Imagine if The Undertaker held the WWF title between 1998-2001 and defeated Stone Cold, The Rock, Mick Foley and Triple H.
This feels like that.

Honestly for me the only guy left that could beat Roman and it huge moment like Drew, Sami or Cody winning would be Xavier Woods. The last member of New Day without any singles titles beats the most successful member of The Shield. It writes itself.
