“Do you work here?” I got that question a lot when I worked at the grocery store during college. And usually someone asked while I was stocking shelves. You know … doing work? I got that all the time at a store I didn't work for. I was a vender for a company so we filled just there stuff. At Walmart who you know wear blue vest most of the time. I was wearing a red shirt with a Coca Cola logo on it. Looking like NOBODY else who works there. Than they get mad at me when I couldn't tell them where something was. I'm like I don't work here. Anyway plenty of stories being I work retail, That I Look at them like what? The best one was working a a clothing store and having a lady yell at me on the sales floor, not even at the register. Because she forgot something. I looked at her and go "Until now, this is the first time I ever saw you." Being she shopped in the women clothes side of the store. I was in the mens to total on the other side of the store. Also total her "I didn't know what all you came in here for." She looked at me funny and just stormed off.

It's not a retail service, but as someone who runs a big Facebook page, a big Twitter, and also a pretty big Discord server, the things I have seen people ask, get upset about, and try and make my or my Moderators problem is... almost endless lol One from my friend who worked at a Subway in Seattle at this time, had a family get pissed off at her and the entire staff for having Onions on their Tuna subs because one of the kids was allergic and was having a reaction, but none of the family ever specified to leave onion off any of the subs, but it was their faults and they had to clean up the mess anyway, refunds, etc, as of course lawsuits were threatened. Another was another friend who worked at WalMart and was in the fishing section and some older guy was trying to buy a new fishing rod with a suspended license and was throwing a fit about it. That one I witnessed live, woof lol I've seen some smaller ones just in travelling, one dude with two kids got so pissed off at a convenience store that the 2 for 4 deal didn't cover the items he specifically wanted that he just stormed out and said "Come on we're going to another story", and his young children he had with him were baffled, yes, they were the more mature ones there, complete reverse tantrum lol Here's one that just happened TONIGHT lol: There was an extra 16 some scent charge on my WalMart order (I had used a card for this which is what outed it on the register), I didn't know why, and the Cashier explained to me that her higher management said to just automatically include rounded up donations to charities to customers without asking. And then when another manager came over, she very much told them "No you can't do that, that's not really legal"... fun times lmfao You need a liscense to buy a fishing rod? (never actually bought one)

I am forever grateful I never worked retail. I'd probably just be getting out of prison if I did.
When I was waiting tables and tending bar, I got a lot of stupid questions. A few that stick out, "Is the lobster fresh?" I live in the midwest. Yep, we fly the lobster in each morning via private charter. "Why doesn't my margarita have rum in it?" That's a daiquiri, ma'am.

Oh man, I have so many different stories.
Now I will not mention anything while working in the mental health field to keep professionalism, but will anything from my retail days are fair game.
During my high school days, I worked at an AMC movie theatre. From people saying "This is Wehrenberg right" (that used to be a rival theatre chain), and no its AMC, is all over the building and on my shirt. "I want a Pepsi" when they never served Pepsi and only CocaCola. Sometimes get people asking it we seen this movie or that movie. Yes we do get to see movies for free IF they are not sold out. But NO we do not see EVERY movie nor or EXPECTED to watch them all! The craziest story I heard was on a day I was off and my friend that was also working there that day mentioned about this guy randomly walking up to workers AND customers asking "where is my theatre" . He was high as a kite, had an opened Hawaiian shirt on and bare-chested under that, and had no recollection or what movie he was seeing, when it started, what theatre it was in, nothing that would have helped him. Finally after him rambling on for over 20 minutes, the manager and security guard told him "sir your theatre is out this way" and walked him outside and away from the building (and no I am NOT making that up).
And for over 10 years I worked for Schnucks, a fairly big grocery chain here in Midwest. The dumbest things people say include "Boy it's a shame you are working today with the nice weather outside" to "why is it so busy" when it's usually a weekend or right before holiday. It was always annoying if a thing did not scan at first they would say "oh that must be free today". The most annoying for me personally was when some (usually an older woman or "Karen") would request for me to wait until they put all there groceries on the belt first before I started scanning so they could watch me scan everyone in to "make sure everything scanned right" (like I was going to overcharge them lol). Not only would this slow everything down, but they would STILL ask me after every third item "did that ring up $2.99 like it was supposed to" when they could clearly see that on the monitor.

An interaction I had while working a customer helpline. I was a supervisor and the call had been going on for nearly an hour since it was passed to me. We were going round in circles because their application hadn't been processed yet.
Caller: I'm not hanging up until you tell me when this will be done.
Me: I'm sorry I can't do that, how long it'll take will depend on how many others are ahead of you and I don't have that information.
Caller: I'm not getting off this call until you tell me when it'll be processed.
Me: I mean, I can tell you a time but if I did that I'd just be making it up and lying to you.
Caller: That's fine.
Me:......okay. You'll have an answer by this time next week but please bear in mind that I am making this up.
Caller: Thank you!
*Hangs up*

If you worked at a theater then I’m guessing you’d seen your share of idiots who brought their kids in to see movies that were not remotely family friendly.

I remember once the manager (who this guy was really looking our for the family and little girl here), had stopped a family who were walking in with their 2-year old daughter into an R rated movie and convinced them to switch their tickets to a G or PG rated movie instead and the whole family would enjoy it more. On the flip side, once while I was working there a father had sent his 7-yeae old son ALONE into a G-rated movie, while he was went to see an R-rated movie by himself at the same time. The boys movie got done there, and I guess the dad did not have a plan with meeting his son afterwards since the boy remained seated in the theatre at the movie was over until the employees cleaned the theatre and asked where his parents where. The boy just said "I wanted to see G movie, my daddy went to see a scary movie, and he is watching that now". The workers/we walked him to seat in the lobby and asked him questions like "you know your dad's name/what he looks like/which movie he was watching". Some of the female employees played some Gamez with the poor kid, until the manager was able to track down the father and told him "I would strongly recommend NOT having him watch a movie alone again".

There was this one time in Target where I was ringing up this lady who had a bunch of items. I asked her if she wanted to apply for a Target credit card. She said yes and just before I started an application, the lady in back asked me to ring her up first since she knew this would be a while. Following the first customer, first served rule of thumb, I said this is a Target rule and the lady who wanted the credit card comes first. With that, the other lady left.
One other time, when I had my cash register light turned off indicating my lane was closed, as I was helping out a customer, one customer thought I was open and came into my lane. I said that this lane was closed. He said: “So, you are telling me to go back onto another lane with a longer line? That is great service.” He just had a bad attitude.
Not a thing that a customer said, but there was one time when I had a line. One man was buying a WHOLE LOT of items but saying he was paying with cash. There was an elderly couple in back of him. The husband of the elderly couple sees me scanning the last item and unbeknownst to everyone, decides that since he was in a rush to put his card in the chip reader thinking it would do no harm. The cash register was on the payment screen where if you put a card in, the purchase would go on your card. Now, like I said, I didn’t know he did this because I was too busy putting the items into the other customers cart (at Target, we are allowed to do this). All of a sudden, I hear a noise indicating that the purchase went through and I found out what the elderly man did and I told those two customers what happened. I called a manager and the manager got told what happened and both of them had to go to guest services to get this straightened out. The wife of the couple came up and said that she worked in retail a long time and she knows what I have to go through especially situations like I just went through.

I have memories of going to Kangaroo Jack and parents bringing kids as if it was a standard CGI funny animal kids movie. Seeing parents get all pissy after a while was probably the most interesting part of the movie as well lol. I feel sorry for anybody working theaters when that false advertising hit.

I've done a small amount of work as a live event/theatre tech, and I can tell you that the demands that people visiting a venue come in with sometimes can be f***ing ridiculous. A lot of those are simply a lack of understanding of how theatre works, so it's aggravating and repetitious but you can't hold it against them too much.
My most recent favourite one was when we were running a talent contest out of a venue, so there were like 20 different acts. We have about maybe four or five dressing rooms, so outside of paid talent, nobody got to have a dressing room. We told everyone this via email, and that it was partly due to people not respecting the rules about number of participants in their acts, so we did not have space to house everybody. Of course, the people who showed up with way more people than they were permitted to bring were the ones complaining most, despite it being literally their fault in the first place.
One of those people also got super furious with us, a live event venue, for not having coffee available for everyone. First of all that's free coffee for hundreds of people, second of all, the venue is not open??? This isn't like not being able to get a beer during a Metallica show, this is the soundchecking portion. All of us including the staff have to leave the venue to get coffee at this time of day??

Before I started working in finance/banking I thought I was bad at math but then I realized some folks really have NO concept of how numbers/money works.
I remember this one guy had been overpaying every month on his auto loan so his bills would show him owing less and less every month.
Then one month he paid the amount he actually owed and called back the next upset that we had "Jacked up his payment" (His statement was for his regular payment amount)
I spent 30 minutes trying to explain to him his bills had been lower because he paid us more than he owed. Then My Manager spent an hour trying to explain the same thing to him
