Since I see Punk getting attacked in other threads, I decided to do one honoring him.
I became a fan of CM Punk during his feud with Jeff Hardy. Since then, I have admired his promos and in-ring work.
Anyone else remember when you became a fan?

I mean this sincerely OP, what do you think the best possible outcome is for this thread? Because I can think of about 100 different ways this can go and none of them are very positive.

I mean this sincerely OP, what do you think the best possible outcome is for this thread? Because I can think of about 100 different ways this can go and none of them are very positive. Then let's make an effort actually keep this thread on-topic. For me, it was his ECW debut. Even when under Paul Heyman, most of the new callups debuting on WWECW felt mostly in the "WWE" mould. Punk came off as someone different. His look, his style, the way he spoke, even if it was a fairly safe way to debut the "straight edge" Punk as a babyface. It got me curious enough to finally go back and watch some of his ROH stuff, and I became a fan after that. He was a highlight of the third WWE brand in those couple of years. His move to Raw and first world title run... he deserved better. Think the only one he beat was JBL and he never got to properly lose it. First-time title runs off an MITB cash-in are usually a bit crap anyway. The move to Smackdown was better, as was his heel turn. We got the Jeff Hardy feud, and Straight Edge Society stable. He was firmly my favourite wrestler by that point.

Many years ago I'd completely given up on wrestling, but kept hearing about ROH and mire specifically Samoa Joe
I bought a load of ROH VHS tapes and watched Joe first and was blown away, but the next few I wasn't fussed on and was about to give up, before watching one last one titled best of CM Punk
I'd never heard of him but instantly became a fan and it was probably that tape that stopped me from thinking I'd outgrown wrestling
Since then you've had summer of punk, evil punk singing happy birthday to Rey's daughter, a weirdly underrated match v mark Henry during his first wwe title reign, him and jericho putting on a fantastic main event at a terribly boring UK house show and loads of guys I hadn't spoken to in ages messaging me about the pipe bomb thinking it was a shoot are just some of his highlights

His dumbass outburst at the All Out 2022 Media Scrum made me start eating muffins, ironically.
Anyway, what I actually liked about Punk in the past: His rise in ROH, both Pipe Bombs there and in WWE, the Straight Edge Society despite how they were booked, winning the WWE title at MITB 2011, regardless of what happened afterwards, and his AEW debut on Rampage back in 2021 had a nice reaction.

My genuine answer is back in his ROH and Second City Saint days. I saw a backstage promo of him with Colt Cabana and (I think) Daffney where everyone was celebrating and Punk deadpanned to the camera "my life is a war" while someone blew a party blower in his face. I was pretty disillusioned with WWE and after other stuff to watch so I started watching ROH and TNA and he was one of my favorites.
I was so glad when he came back. I bought the CM Punk shirt they released at the time and it was the first wrestling shirt I'd bought since the Attitude Era.
Now, I don't really care if he comes back or not.

For better or worse, dude gets people talking.
I will say that my favorite match from him is vs Cena on Raw to determine who will face The Rock..

In the spirit of positivity I will say that I genuinely thing between his All Out debut until the Dog Collar match Punk did some of the best work of his career.

I've been a CM Punk fan for a long time, close to 20 years. I always thought he was a really special wrestler with a unique connection to fans and think he still is that and can be again. But for once, all his flaws are starting to override his talent. He helped to ruin a company that made me love wrestling again.
I would love to be able to be a full-on fan again, but I'll need to see real changes in how he treats people and behaves.

When he first came back and had the match with Darby and the program with Max I genuinely thought I was seeing happy middle-aged Punk who just wanted to have some matches, win the title to give it some extra prestige, and then spend his remaining career as a part timer, similar to Billy Gunn and Sting.

I’ve been a fan of his since the Pipebomb and I’m kind of excited to see him come back again.

I think there's a lot of revisionism around condensing his run into "happy punk", brief MJF fued, and deranged freak lameo loser who tried to get the people of Chicago to give him their soul power. For most of his run he was extraordinarily giving (to younger talent who couldn't threaten his position, yes) and his match with Eddie Kingston was a stylistic challenge to 35 minute main event wrestling that far, far more people should pick up on.

His Straight Edge Society run. Before that I didn't know him very well, after that I liked him, but never that much. His Royal Rumble appearance, where he took a microphone after each elimination and gave a sermon, is one of my favourite performances. He can excel with more gimmicky storylines.

For me, Punk is one of the prime examples of separating the art from the artist in pro wrestling. I have been entertained by pretty much everything CM Punk the pro wrestling character has ever done in his career, and his return to wrestling in AEW and initial run in the company was truly one of the best ever.
I think Phil Brooks, the person, is a miserable prick with a Napoleon complex, based on everything that has ever come out about him publicly.

Guy wrestles with passion, I'll give him that. It makes his matches and overall involvement with wrestling feel more real.

I loved the Second City Saints. Punk playing off Colt, Ace, Lucy and Traci was a highlight in the early years of ROH, and it made me a fan.
I miss those days.

Then that would be entirely the fault of whoever drags it off topic. I don't like Punk, but the OP couldn't have been any clearer. Anyway, I'll go. MITB was an ATG wrestling moment. And his NXT commentary was legendary.

The pipebomb run to when he left with the title is great viewing until the WWE buttfumbled it.
Other than that I was never a huge fan of his.
