F*** me, all I hope is that we get through this topic with another dozen or so pages where someone claims they’re bigger than Adam Cole, thus would be taken more seriously in pro wrestling. I’ll just say for the sake of the example; Cole gets reactions. That’s your number one job as a pro wrestler, to get you to care and get invested. If you happen to be talented in the ring, that’s a bonus. Pretty much. A guy gets reactions like that, consistently, then he's at a level where any promoter would be stupid to not push him. I don't think the execution of that has always worked, to where I'm closer to siding with the posters around here who dislike Cole than the fans who are popping for him, but like...if we're in the realm of "YOU NEED XYZ TRAITS TO GET OVER AS A MAIN EVENTER" arguments, then Cole has won the argument by already being over.

Is any critique on someone's look or appearance considered body shaming?

Konnan says something absolutely moronic. In other news, grass is green.

Is any critique on someone's look or appearance considered body shaming? No but when your critique is about his body and how structurally you're not marketable if you don't fit this specific body ideal, that's body shaming. Konnan's not complaining about his haircut.

Okay so all body critiques are body shaming? These are millionaire pro wrestlers. In my opinion it's fair game to say someone doesn't have the body to be world champ. Guys who look like Cole can be world champions, but their style needs to exceed their appearance. Like Rush has a similar build (albeit taller) but his offense is so intense and crisp that it plays. Cole works like Edge.

It says that there is an ideal body, that there is a 'credible' kind of body that s believable in a fake fight even though the mainstreaming of mixed martials arts should have killed that dead by now, and frankly it's demanding that male wrestlers perform their gender in a very specific way that ties in to lots of other things. Also the idea that Cole's performance doesn't 'exceed his appearance' is just kinda funny to me. Cole works a swift, cardio-demanding style, and he is undeniably in amazing shape to be able to pull off the matches that he does. That's the important part. He is in shape where it matters most for his style and for his ability to perform.

Again, the issue with “looking like a main eventer” is that we’ve had enough people get over who do not fall under the standards set. And yet here people are having this discussion again and again and again because those same people making those statements are either just ignoring crowd reactions, TV ratings and merch sales or are just plain grifters.
The dead horse hasn’t been so much flogged as much as the place where the dead horse was is now big enough to be an Olympic sized swimming pool because of all the flogging.

I always find this whole thing so weird because like... What's unbelievable about it? One, Cole is clearly, demonstrably in phenomenal shape, that much is obvious just by seeing him perform, and two, even if he is kind of unassuming-looking there are plenty of unassuming-looking people out there who can beat anyone's ass. There's nothing at all unrealistic about the way he's presented.
And also, it's professional wrestling, everything about it requires absolutely massive suspension of disbelief to begin with.

Presentation matters in wrestling, absolutely, but I feel like if Cole was a little bit buffer, a tiny bit taller, if his forehead took up a few less counties, that it would not make a huge difference for him.

Best part is is that Austin was bigger than Konnan. LMAO Not even Taker could dwarf Austin when Konnan mixed it up with Super Caló. Konnan’s cardio was infamously bad later on in WCW. The guy got gassed in like two minutes.

This isn't really the place for it, but I don't know when else it's ever gonna come up, but can I just say that I always hated Konnan's stupid little rolling clothesline?

Bit weird how after the interview Konnan said he worked out in a gym for a month and turned into a Voltron type being of Adam Cole and Ricky Starks put together.
And what is with the baseball bat?

as long as he has the fitness and conditioning to work the whole match and not get himself injured then who cares? I get that it's a cosmetic business to an extent but if he's already over then why does it matter?

Not even saying this to be a jerk, but of all people how is Adam Cole the guy who gets so much body shaming?

I never grew up on Konan except the little bit I saw him in TNA, and he really impressed me with his speech for Rey at the HOF. But dude comes off as such a tool here.

Just saying, Mick Foley put my butt in a seat, and so did/does Adam Cole. You sell me kayfabe as well as them, then I don't give a f*** what you look like.
