Weezer had a record called Pilkerton or something that people hated then loved.
I know this only because despite the fact I have never in my life searched for Weezer the YT algorithm keeps suggesting them to me.

Peter Benchley came to regret writing Jaws when the movie led to people fearing and hating sharks, and caused an increase in poaching and mass killing of them.

Bill Murray with the Ghostbusters Franchise. Until Afterlife wasn't he usually the main holdout for Ghostbusters III mainly being delayed for so long? Part of that was him and Ramis had a massive falling out. They reconciled slightly before his death.

Agatha Christie grew to hate Hercule Poirot and how he outshined her other creation, Miss Marple.

Jani Lane could never get past the popularity of Cherry Pie.
And as a side note, people mentioned in this thread could learn a thing or two from Bill Watterson.

Thom Yorke used to despise Creep but has softened in recent years like he knows it's a dorky song but is happy to play it from time to time to be in on the joke. Pablo Honey's sales were disappointing and the success of Creep (it was a smash on US college radio which was the best way to get international exposure pre-internet) helped secure the band's future with EMI. A similar case is a Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, who is famed for his surrealist novels with abstract plots but Norwegian Wood a very conventional nostalgic love story was his first major financial success and gave him the freedom to write what he wanted to after that similar to the freedom Creep gave Radiohead. No idea what Murakami thinks about Norwegian Wood these days but he probably doesn't consider it to be one of his notable works. I can't speak for Norwegian Wood, but he doesn't think highly of his first two novels, Chase the Wind and Pinball, 1975. So much so that there's a note from the author in their English editions explaining such. Weirdly enough, I like all three. (Murakami is my favorite)

Stephen King doesn't like the Tommyknockers. It was one of the books written during his coke addiction so that might have something to do with it as well. I believe he once said there is half a good novel in Tommyknockers. I'd like to see this alleged half.

I still have the little lyric book they made you send out for when it first came out.

Stretching, but would Bea Arthur sort of be like this? I mean she didn't totally dislike The Golden Girls, but was the one holdout from The Golden Palace/she wanted to move on. Plus there's the infamous story about her and Betty White BTS.
Again stretching a little bit, depending on how involved he was with the Peanuts specials: Charles Schulz and It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown. I know at least that he didn't like the Little Red-Haired Girl being depicted, and may have been one of those who listened to the complaints about blaming Charlie Brown for Lucy pulling the ball away.
There's Beavis and Butt-head episodes Mike Judge was not a fan of.
G.I. Joe: The Movie is this with Buzz Dixon.
Oh! Mark Goodson with the Match Game. If you read comments by him, he always thought there wasn't enough game in it. (This could be why the Ross Shafer version of the show had contestants playing for cash, and added the Match-Up sub-rounds)
Of course, when he combined MG with Hollywood Squares, you can tell he resented including that show in the hour, as there were a LOT of changes in the game play.

This one might be controversial, but Jim Henson and The Muppets. Based on various stories, Henson wanted to move on from Kermit and the gang after The Muppet Movie. He wanted to work on his passion project, The Dark Crystal, but no studio was interested. They just wanted a second Muppet Movie. And so The Great Muppet Caper was made, with the proceeds going to fund The Dark Crystal. Dark Crystal bombs in theaters. Leading to no one wanting his follow-up, Labyrinth. Instead, wanting a third Muppet Movie. And so The Muppets Take Manhattan was made, with the proceeds going to fund Labyrinth. Labyrinth bombs in theaters. Henson doesn't want to make a fourth Muppet Movie. Tired of what he created, he begins talks to sell The Muppets to Disney and use that to fund his future projects. As we know, Jim Henson died before the sale was finalized. One would wonder how Jim would feel knowing his legacy is The Muppets rather than anything else he did. Sesame Street brought joy, tolerance and education to millions across the world for decades and his practical effects company is still one of the biggest names in the field to this day. Yeah, he is of course remembered most for the Muppets, but his legacy is more varied than that. Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Little Shop of Horrors, 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, obviously Sesame Street... he's got a lot of acclaim for a lot of projects. I think selling the Muppets was also not just a matter of frustration, but because he obviously knew it'd mean Disney stewarding them and keeping them active in peoples' imaginations. I feel if it was just wanting to walk away, he'd have been more receptive to Michael Eisner bugging the shit out of him to try to get a sell of Sesame Street going, too, something Henson repeatedly shot down.

James Hetfield hates 'Escape' from Ride the Lightning.
Not sure if he was being serious, but one of times I saw Metallica live, James said, "Okay, let's get this over with" before launching into 'Enter Sandman'. I imagine having a huge hit like that would get extremely old, so I can definitely see how he might hate it.

De La Soul never warmed to what became their greatest hit, "Me, Myself & I". Only recorded under record label pressure for their 1989 debut album, the legendary Long Island trio never shied away from performing their ill-fitting trademark hit... but would frequently croon "We really hate this song" during the chorus.

Maybe he just knows some people are really dying to hear it, so getting it out of the way will maybe get people to give the other stuff on the setlist more of a chance than if they spent the whole show thinking, "Sandman when?" Like, I sometimes wonder if it's all just pride, or if some guys like Neil Young, etc, don't get that if you want people to give your new shit a chance, you can't totally alienate people who want some throwbacks, too.

Didn't Eminem refuse to acknowledge his "Infinite" album? I had listened to some of it before and he tries to sound more like Nas or AZ with his rapping style. I heard after a while, he started to acknowledge it more.
I know Mandy Moore wasn't fond of her first two albums, but then I think I read somewhere that after a while, she made peace with it. I could be wrong, though.

It doesn't hurt that Mandy's acting career has gone pretty well for her, and after a dry spell, she's been pretty active musically, too, so it's probably easier to move past some of that.
