So I have a friend who wants to dip their toe in pro wrestling. Not so much that they want to get into, but understand what it is that I watch. So, if you had one match and one segment/promo to show someone, what would you go for?

Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. from Halloween Havoc 1997 is my default "Show to newbies" match.

The five-star Classic… Undertaker vs Khali matches….
….yes, I am joking.
How about Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat from WM3?

Rock vs Hogan. WM X8.
Two larger than life characters, with mainstream recognition.
An insanely hot crowd.
Good commentary.
And it feels like a true spectacle.

In 2002 I showed a friend the 1990 Royal Rumble match.
She has been hooked ever since.

Weird suggestion, but the Fatal 4-Way tag match from WrestleMania this year with the Street Profits, Viking Raiders, Alpha Academy and Braun Strowman/Ricochet. It’s a strong sample platter of the great stuff you can get from wrestling, but it leaves your prospective fan with plenty of room upwards to get the absolute best stuff should they want to invest further.

If they want to understand what you're interested in why not just show them one of your favourite matches?
Would be pointless if you showed them some random match you don't care about based on online opinion and they didn't understand what you like based on a part of wrestling you don't even like that much

This years Rumble might be a good place to start. Either that or a Ladder/MITB style match. I wouldn’t show a new fan anything too violent and or an epic match like Omega v Ospreay just yet.

The first Rock/Cena match I think is a good one. They're celebrities outside of wrestling so people will likely know them already. The story of former top guy returning after years to face the current top guy is easy to understand. And it just overall feels like a special event.

The original Aztec Warfare from Lucha Underground.
It has a ton of people that are amongst the top stars in the top companies now , and it is a royal rumble'esc match and the way it is set up means it never slows down and it is only episode 9 of the first season which means the barrier for entry to understand what is going on isn't too large. Oh and this is where they crown their inaugural world champion and is when the show really starts finding its identity.

If that's what I'm thinking i don't see why not. A lot of non-fans go in still expecting to laugh at the silly 80s guys barging into each other and posing A suprise stiff brutal match instantly shows that's not all wrestling can be, even if it's not what they eventually settle on My friend became a fan because I had a Samoa Joe ROH match on it the background. I'd watched wrestling before but that made her take notice with quotes like "wait, are those guys really hitting each other? Lol

Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage, Wrestlemania 8. You want a blend of workrate, an atmosphere that feels like a fight, major stakes, an hot audience and the soap opera aspect of pro wrestling on display, that’s a good pick IMO.

Gonna throw out not just one match, but one episode. ECW Hardcore TV, episode 216, June 10th, 1997. Dreamer vs. Raven, Loser Leaves ECW. After the match, the famed "invasion" of the ECW Arena by Jerry Lawler, which directly leads into the Barely Legal rematch between Taz and Sabu, which in turn, leads directly into Taz vs. Shane Douglas for the ECW Television Championship in a 3 Minute Challenge, where if Taz can't submit Douglas, he has to leave ECW for 30 days. You also get a Dudleys promo on the show, so it really has a little of everything: a talking segment, a hardcore brawl, a chaotic post-match segment, a high-impact stiff as hell match, some more talking, and a fast-paced technical match with a story.

Hulk v. Andre at Mania 3, possibly the Main Event.
Newbies don’t wanna see workrate, they want to see spectacle.
