It was really good, almost great, and if we're being totally honest a bit of a letdown considering the expectations going in.
However, they had to work through a shoot injury and a weird seizure spot probably facilitated by that injury, and also maybe time constraints cause of the previous two matches going long. Crowd was also beat and that took away from the match.
But it gave us that Final Countdown moment, and the sheer sight of Okada and Danielson working a match together. Sometimes the actual match becomes secondary to the occasion. I felt like this was the case last night.

It was alright but not a worthy main event and didn't live up the hype.
And looks like Bryan was channeling the early 2000's indie scene with his convulsion sell, which everyone did back then.

The more I think about it, the more impressive the performance is given what Bryan was working with towards the end. Dude is a beast for pulling that off with one arm.

I tempered by expectations for this match beforehand as I knew if I went into match expecting it to be best match of all time I'd end up being disappointed. So I loved this match. The spectacle of these 2 giants battling it out in a gritty war of attrition spliced with the odd big spot worked for me. Final Countdown entrance was goosebump stuff. And I loved the finish (planned or not), the shocking tap out somewhat out of nowhere worked for me.
It wasn't as good as Kenny/Ospreay and I think it having to follow that was super tough. But it was by noway average or bad for me.
Danielson feels like a big deal now. Like almost godlike big deal. Bit like when Brock ended the Streak. Brock was booked like shit prior to that and then all of sudden that was all forgotten and he was legit uber level guy. Danielson shouldn't lose for a while now. It's a shame he doesn't want the belt as him staying unbeaten, taking belt off MJF somehow and having a title run would seriously elevate the belt and the company

Yeah, I'll cut it a lot of slack for that fact. Also, Danielson gets to say I TAPPED OUT OKADA WITH A BROKEN f***ING ARM Hopefully they run it back, maybe even at Wrestle Kingdom.

I wanted it to main event but man it had a hard act to follow in Omega v Ospreay and never really felt like it got out of 3rd gear. A shame but hopefully we will see a rematch in the future.
And yeah please don’t do the fake convulsion stuff again was uncomfortable to watch.

Okay, now I know Bryan was actually injured, so I can be less disappointed in how it went down.
Hopefully he heals up, and they run it back at WK and have a much better match.

The convulsion spot was just hilariously bad, particularly cuz it just won't work in this kind of era. At best, it's tasteless. At worst, it's dumber than f*** cuz we now know the ref's gonna be quick to stop it if it's real. Okada tells the ref to back off as Bryan is having this medical emergency and the ref just...does?? Dawg.
Bad idea in a company where you seemingly can get away with a lot of them since nobody says no, I guess. Gotta move with the times and get away from all the kayfabe "brain injury/fencing position/convulsions" stuff...who the f*** wants to see that in modern sports, haha? Please don't forget wrestling is entertainment, man.

The seizure bit was just a work to cover Bryan legit breaking his arm, and yeah hope we get a rematch at the earliest by All In

I get the thinking on it being too much, but I do also get "we need to call a time out to see if Bryan can keep going, but cannot do that and not just end the match, what can we stall for time with?" reasoning if this was adlibbed and not planned for that. I do wish they'd done something else, but having a plausible way of doing this that doesn't just amount to everyone throwing up their hands and acknowledging things is tough.

It's one of those "okay in hindsight..." things. At the time I was like "why are we doing this?"

It's been a very long time since I physically reacted the way I did when I heard the final countdown again.

Danielson and Okada had a very decent match, like a 4 star match, when Danielson had a broken f***ing arm. That says they have a lot to offer and now he's made Okada tap it should be electric if they run it back in Japan.
Having said that, in Okada's two AEW matches, Adam Cole got a near career ending concussion and the greatest wrestler on the planet was reduced to "merely very good". Neither of them are Okada's fault but talk about a curse. Next time he shows up he needs to wrestle as Okato instead.

Danielson's injury obviously stopped it from reaching the heights people expected so hopefully it's not a one and done. I don't think a rematch would really fit at All In but I'd love it at Wrestle Kingdom.

Danielson vs Okada II at Wembley in front of 70k would be dynamite, but it's really on the verge of Danielson's recovery time.

Also when you really think about it, the dumbest thing of all is a dude like Danielson even wrestling at all with his legit injury history.

I found the match more enjoyable rewatching it after learning of Danielson faking a convulsion to cover his arm injury

Match was enjoyable, it just didn't hit second gear probably because of the injury.

I said in the Forbidden Door thread before the PPV started that this probably wasn't going to be the MOTY, instant classic that many were hoping for so I had lower expectations going in. On any other card it would have been a great main event but unfortunately for them, it had to follow Omega and Ospreay.
If they run it again, I'd expect it to be better.
I'm very surprised that Okada took the loss here though. After losing to so many people, Danielson beats Okada, lmao.
