I don't know, almost 600K on a Saturday night still seems perfectly acceptable.

Also, Showbuzz Daily will be no more, so may not get rankings information as readily going forward, unless another site steps in. I think Spoiler TV posts similar information but not sure if they’re consistent and timely.

As a moderator on a wrestling board for a long time now, I’d like to thank Showbuzz Daily for their service but if it means less ratings discourse going forward, I’ll be one of the happiest motherf***ers on the planet.

I think everybody expected a steep dip from the first show. That's a little more than I thought, but I'm sure AEW and TNT aren't worried about it, and it's in line with what they expected.

I don't know, almost 600K on a Saturday night still seems perfectly acceptable. Depends on the expectations, but at least it’s something to ding Punk’s ego a bit. I think the worry, if any, is that it dropped to that range almost immediately which means they’ll have to work overtime to make sure it doesn’t keep dropping.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I LIKED A SHOW OR NOT Hah, I mean the ratings are still centrally important for the business side of wrestling companies, so I think they’re worthwhile discussions to be had.

Last week they had the team of belonging people vs. the Buhlet Club in the main event. This week they should have the Buhlet Club vs. the team of belonging people to change things up.

Just call CM Punk smooth, because the ratings are going down down dooown If it was the Eddie Kingston show it would stay at 1.5M

I'd argue that yes, they're important, but what's most important are the trends. Every week, there's awful discourse around the internet over a loss of a few hundred thousand viewers for each show and how it means that it's the end of the world as we know it. Collision's going to be even worse as there will be people defending or trying to connect Punk to the week-to-week ratings discourse around the show.

Is anyone really surprised??
Ending the first episode how they did was beyond stupid, they didn't give anyone anything to be excited about for the next episode. They needed some kind of angle or surprise to draw people in.

To that I’d say, don’t read wrestling Twitter or Facebook groups. You can find intelligent discussions about ratings here, the Meltzer boards, Squared Circle, without having to deal with ugly tribalism. That tribalism will exist with or without the ratings too.

Collision's going to be even worse as there will be people defending or trying to connect Punk to the week-to-week ratings discourse around the show. Like, unless it’s something like WCW’s 52 weeks or the asskicking NXT got from AEW during the first period, ratings are always going to ebb and flow depending on various circumstances and, really, the only people that should matter to are the networks and the people running said companies. And clearly, USA hasn’t been reported to be saying much about Raw’s ratings for a good few years, Turner’s given AEW more programming rather than less so unless either changes, that’s a better way of judging the overall state of play than week by week ratings. The only reason people talked about it in this context is because WWE whacked people over the head with the Monday Night Wars talk without realizing the only reason anyone in those documentaries talked about ratings was because both sides had the best possible demo numbers possible so of course that wasn’t going to be fuel on the fire. And we know those were the true concern because ABC were literally telling their advertisers in trade publication adverts to not go near wrestling and choose football instead.

Smackdown February 17 2023 has Madcap Moss Vs Gunther for the IC Championship - 2,383,000 viewers
AEW Collision with CM Punk - 595,000 viewers
Madcap Moss is a bigger draw than CM Punk

Honestly I forgot about the show till I saw this thread. The 1st episode was fine but they did absolutely nothing to get me excited about the following week. Meaningless 6 or 8 man tags aren’t really a hook to anyone except the hardest of the hardcores.

I'm someone who could not care less about ratings (Rampage is my favorite hour of wrestling every week), but making a flagship show for a Saturday evening is... a choice.
He had to have known.
