They will get higher ratings if they do a hard brand split!

Is anyone really surprised?? Ending the first episode how they did was beyond stupid, they didn't give anyone anything to be excited about for the next episode. They needed some kind of angle or surprise to draw people in. Apparently the original plan was for Kenta to appear after the Main Event but Kenta bailed out at the last min.

Wow Seth on NXT last week as the only real star supported by a bunch of developmental talent got more viewers and a bigger demo than a show that had Punk/MJF/Sting/Jericho/Tanahashi/Naito/FTR/Bullet Club/Christian/Darby/Miro/Andrade/Starks/Swerve/Suzuki.
I knew the demo wouldn't be as high as the debut but I didn't think viewers would dip into the 500,000s as early as week 2. It took Rampage 2 months to drop to that level and that's at 10pm on a Friday. Maybe Saturday even in prime time is tougher than we thought.

I don't know, almost 600K on a Saturday night still seems perfectly acceptable. Depends on the expectations, but at least it’s something to ding Punk’s ego a bit. I think the worry, if any, is that it dropped to that range almost immediately which means they’ll have to work overtime to make sure it doesn’t keep dropping. Expectation is going to have to be big for this, yeah. Saturday nights run into a lot of the issues Friday nights do, with some added wrinkles. The aboslute biggest one is that any overlap on wrestling with combat sports is going to run into a whole lot of issues for big boxing cards and the facts that most Saturdays of the year, UFC runs events. It'd actually be really interesting to see what the ratings for the 8th are in particular, since that's the first time Collision will be going head to head against a numbered UFC PPV. Only the prelims, sure, but that's going to be its first big test and something to keep an eye on to gauge how much of a drop that could lead to. Obviously MITB this weekend even without direct time slot conflict will be interesting, too. That said, the network knows all of this stuff. AEW knows all of this stuff. None of this was launched without a lot of analyzing and research into what they coudl expect and what would have been a satisfactory number. Collision should be in a solid spot, my only concern is if it's perform somewhat under a threshold that might hurt their hopes for that rumoured billion dollar deal, if Collision exists in that space that's at or above minumum expectation/value but not aboev that threshold where the value is there to pay the huge bucks.

The thing they need to watch for is the demo dropping. Viewership will fluctuate but for instance, .21 is still good enough to be in the top 5 most nights. As long as they're still drawing a good demo, it'll be fine.

The current format is at least helping Collision main event to draw the highest numbers instead of the lowest like Rampage and most Dynamites these days., they need to continue to treating Collision as an important show and the rating will slowly increase back to the mid 0.20s for starters, giving up on Collision right away will be very stupid by TK.

Man, all this just reminds me further that I’m not going to miss these threads. I'm gonna miss the Mothman doom post. That's the only reason I go to these, otherwise it's a significantly tamer Reddit/Twitter shitshow.

I do wonder about oversaturation. WWE and aew alone now reach 12 hours a week from their regular core shows. There's often ppvs, specials etc on top. Then there's every other promotion.
You can break down the reasons and draws behind ratings but it's a huge amount to watch and at some point something has to give.
Nice problem to have though. There were dark times when NXT was the only hour of TV worth watching.

I'm not letting the gimmick die because of Showbuzz Daily.

I know posting equals caring, but in 2023 if I never have to hear about ratings again, it will be too soon.

From Showbuzz:
“Nevertheless, we’ll miss that analysis, and we’ll miss you. (Well, maybe not the wrestling trolls, but everyone else.)”
Man, wrestling fans must have been annoying the hell out of them.
