If only it was possible to block threads on these boards. Then we could have one single ratings thread and everyone who doesn't care could block that single thread and never see ratings talk again. (I'm presuming you can't block/mute threads, lol) I would prefer that, same for the rate the show thread. Seems both attract a lot of problematic posts (that some only seem to participate on) and wouldn't mind doing away with both. Plus they seem to stick out like an eyesore especially with the use of catchy titles vs straight nonsense title

I don't think ratings threads need to get banned, but I am definitely in the camp that when it comes to AEW they get needlessly doomposty sometimes or as others have said they don't get much perspective on why a rating might be what it is, some users blame this and that definitively and it's also tiring, but I don't actually expect them to stop, nor do I expect discourse to stop any time a rating isn't at the bar that has been set in some's eyes Oh well... Mothman's doom posts are great lol As ever, what's the ratio in this thread of posts which are 'needlessly doomposty' vs posts complaining about how discussing ratings is inherently bad? 1:10, 1:20? If everyone who didn't want to discuss this rating didn't click on the thread, it'd still be on Page 1. We go round in circles over this, but the reality is if this show had done a much better than expected rating, no-one would be talking about banning ratings threads. They'd be talking about how x, y, z is clearly over and what a draw Punk is. So much of the build up to Collision was built around the idea of it being a new A show and Punk specifically being worth all of the hassle to bring back because of his immense popularity (a point you made regularly). It seems as relevant as anything else that gets discussed on here to see how the show is performing based on available metrics like TV ratings and attendance numbers. Nailed it.

For historical context as to how the rating discourse has changed, here’s the ratings thread for the 12/10/18 RAW, one apparently so bad that the McMahon family did their televised apology the week after (then changed nothing, but still, work with me here). Literally no mention of the demo, no mention of it being in the Top 5 cable shows of the night behind only the NFL, its adjacent programming and one other thing (by only .01, mind you)… Just a lot of doom-posting and being gotten to by Baron Corbin. officialfan.proboards.com/thread/581262/raw-viewership-another-new-record

You called Collision's numbers "Rampage at Home", and you think that is a "post about ratings" that isn't going to lead to a very eye rolling response from other users? You seem to be missing the point here about what people are annoyed with, and one of the things is the hyperbole. Trying to act like people here who haven't been fond of the ratings threads aren't coming from a genuine place and are simply reacting to nothing seems like some serious handwaiving to the actual topic and discussion at hand to why ratings threads always devolve into this discussion. And again, I don't think ratings threads should be banned, that's going a bridge too far in the other direction, but we can't act like these threads are always total normal and rational discussion on either end at all times, because they aren't. Go back to the 2018 archives and look at the way people would comment on Raw’s viewership/ratings numbers each week. Some of the same people that are posting in this AEW thread about not liking the ratings discourse and ratings not being important were just ripping on the Raw rating as proof of the quality of the show dipping and doomposting the company. Some people liked negative ratings discourse when it was a company they didn’t like, but now don’t like it when it’s a company they do like. So very very true

He would actively correct anyone who implied the demo mattered more. This was April 2019 and he's going out of his way to downplay Smackdown being top 5 in the demo because "ratings are by viewers." It's funny because just a few months later he'd completely flip the script. Suddenly viewership was like a piece of shit on the bottom of his shoe and all he cared about was demo ranking when he had just been saying the complete opposite.

All I can take away from that 2018 thread is the bit where I said WWE could turn the problems with its ratings around if they wrote a good show becuase damn it feels good to be right.

It was bad. When someone says the show got a low rating because it was bad, the show they're imagining in their head is a late 2018 episode of Raw. That period might've been the nadir of televised wrestling and that includes the deaths.

Many of you aren’t really helping the case of why ratings threads annoy the hell out of us mods, I hope you realize that. And I’ll say what I said about the “how to improve the AEW section” threads that go around; you can’t say “Oh, just ignore the bad stuff” when said bad stuff is becoming a big part of the section. You want to have good discussions with people? Stop being obvious provoking and with all due respect, you know who you are when you do it. It doesn't seem to me like anyone on this thread is actually provoking or trying to bait. They are just pointing out a arguably legit point about the hypocrisy and double standards some people have when it comes to ratings thread.

Those years have programmed such a hard Pavlovian "don't give a shit" response into me that it is hard to even pay attention to RAW or Smackdown at this point. The production is so different on NXT it doesn't apply there.
