Ugh. Part of the reason I originally watched AEW is because I presumed we wouldn’t get this type of Cena shit. Yeah Cody aside aew have been really good with listening to fan reactions and adjusting accordingly and that makes things far more enjoyable . This is the first time it's felt different, like this is for the networks more than the quality of the show.

Fragile ego. Weak spirit. Weak mind.
Three reasons why Punk lashes out at fans who don't immediately prostrate to him as soon as Cult Of Personality starts playing. Edit: Also three reasons why Punk is so horrible at trying to be Cena.

Wish he did but nope, it's Punk.

Yes, they’ve been setting up his inevitable turn damn near since he debuted.

In terms of meta-watching the show, didn't that make Cody more of a heel? "When and how I portray my gimmick, I'm consciously choosing to go against the majority reaction I receive from the live audience." Yeah the guy willing to light himself on fire to get cheered is definitely a meta heel Nobody likes a try-hard, so it checks out?

I don’t think he will ever go heel. With his mindset and ego, going heel will somehow translate over to real life, and it would mean he’s giving in and taking some responsibility for this whole situation and admitting at least a little bit that he’s a real life bad guy. I don’t see him doing that and yes I really think that’s how he views things.
I just know for me personally I can’t take what he’s doing right now seriously and it’s getting harder and harder to watch Collision.

I doubt "Big Match John" watches AEW or even thinks about it.
If he does, though, I wonder how hard he laughs every time he sees Punk try to be for AEW what he was for WWE?

I laughed a little when Punk basically gave Cene’s FINE SPEECH rant to Ricky. Like bro really pulled the ‘if you can’t beat me clean in the middle of Mt. Olympus then your win doesn’t matter!’ thing Cena did all the time.

Punk has been doing these little nuggets people expected to be seeds of a heel turn pretty much he came to AEW.
all they've been is Phil actively airing his grievances on tv... which eventually expanded into the most massive public blow up and destruction of basically his entire carefully crafted persona that proved that the man actually is that much of a petty jackass..
ONLY TO COME BACK not owning hte fact he is that petty jackass but more or less acting like nothing happened? no I don't expect them to actually make him an actual heel.

It's not just Punk's fight at the scrum that's leading to this. I also think it's a better climate in US wrestling now for straight-up babyfaces. Cody in AEW was an anomaly but WWE fans unironically love him and Seth, as they do Kevin and Sami and the new face Usos- and many of those fans are also tuning into Dynamite each week. The Acclaimed pander to crowds like nobody's business and they get away with it. Omega's been a firm good guy and beloved for it. AEW fans are clamoring for a new top face, Adam Cole is super over and fans are interested in a potentially heroic MJF. Plus, Cena in his current part-timer status gets showered with positivity. Maybe Punk's "I'm an asshole who tells it like it is" attitude post-scrum is also fueling some of the responses?
It's also hilarious to me that the edgy, acerbic indy legend rebel is now the polarizing figure, as opposed to the alleged "too corporate-friendly and too kiddy and white-meat" superstar.

In a world of corporate synergy…the idea of Peacemaker interrupting a Punk promo is reeeeally interesting.
Would never happen in a billion years but the idea is enough to make me chuckle.

but imagine Peacemaker, not John Cena, but Peacemaker working an angle against punk. On AEW.
This board would explode in irony.

That’s what I’m saying. Like…John Cena in a billion years could never be on AEW television. But Peacemaker conceivably could 😂 Imagine the absolute GOD TIER pop that would happen if one random night this hit the KahnTron; youtu.be/gVN83R-JwRQ

I think this is wildly misreading the faces in wrestling here. Cole and MJF are cheered despite being cocky assholes in the company. Eddie Kingston gets along with nobody and gets cheered as much as anybody in the company. LA Knight got over as a mega face despite being a heel. Seth got extra over while being a heel that was flamboyant and over the top goofy. KO is hardly a nice guy face type as that has never been his character or way. Cody is basically the only pure face in the entire world and it works in WWE instead of AEW because this is a different world where he didn't do that godawful Ogogo promo/feud.

I remember he posted praise for Max Caster once, so it's possible. John grew up in a wrestling family and he has a lot of friends that work at AEW, too (like he posted a picture of Claudio making his AEW debut the day of). A lot of wrestlers are just big fans of wrestling, too. Obviously they can't be too blatant about it because they don't want to unintentionally promote the other product, but there have been plenty of instances of WWE wrestlers praising AEW workers/matches and vice versa on social media and such.
Like I doubt he watches Dynamite every week, but I can easily see him ordering all the PPV's.
