Would have been better suited to just put him in a tag team with someone at the time. Who though? The roster was pretty poor in 92. He tagged frequently with El Matador in 92-93. Not to the point they were ever a regular team, but you would see them quite a bit on programs like Prime Time Wrestling.

I mean even though he wasn’t great in the ring, he was setup to fail anyway.
As Ted DiBiase’s lackey/servant/staff he was never an actual threat to anyone. He was billed as the bodyguard but when every wrestler is bigger, stronger or more technically adept in a fight (including Ted DiBiase himself) and he takes the attacks when the face couldn’t get a hold of DiBiase. It made him look like a chump.
For 4 years!
His credibility after turning face was basically nil, especially once Piper moved on to other stories.

Virgil was the only wrestler I ever saw tag team with total random Jobbers usually they put them with other JTTS talent. youtu.be/cKD8pdlU1qcThey did this with others too. Blake Beverly around the same time. Prior to that there was Jim Brunzell and Jim Powers who had been featured wrestlers and then demoted to jobbers. Hilariously Virgil wrestled and lost to Blake Beverly. youtu.be/V47WNfMK7CA?si=Gx38nyruz0HJV18n

I’m amazed - and thankful - that this doesn’t get as much coverage and recognition as I expected it to.

That is sad-Blake Beverly was losing to everyone at the time.
I think it was the Virgil and El Matador team that Bobby Heenan made a joke saying a kid didn't want to live with his mom or dad because they beat him. But he told a judge, he would live with Virgil and Tito because "they don't beat anyone."

Virgil would have made a terrible Godfather Given all we know about him, I could all too easily see him ass a third rate pimp. Deuce bigelow type third rate. A scary thought if Virgil had the gimmick, and he's out of work in 2002, if he goes around his autograph scam, thinking he is a real pimp. And he attracts the wrong crowd and attention in the style of Marty Jannety.

It was always funny to me that Ted Dibiase was supposed to be so wealthy and worldly, and VIRGIL was the best body guard he could find to protect him

Virgil was the only wrestler I ever saw tag team with total random Jobbers usually they put them with other JTTS talent. youtu.be/cKD8pdlU1qcThis has nothing to do with Virgil, but they actually used this setup for a storyline in 1990, to turn Hercules and Paul Roma heels and become Power & Glory. On a Wrestling Challenge episode in July 1990 there was a tag match between Orient Express and Hercules and a jobber. During this match Gorilla explains Hercules wasn't originally scheduled to be a part of this match but the jobber's original partner couldn't make it so Herc stepped up. Herc holds his own during the match, but the jobber takes the fall. After the match Orient Express cheapshot and doubleteam Herc. Paul Roma comes in to makes the save. Not long after, on a Superstars episode, Paul Roma has a match with Dino Bravo. Bravo wins and attacks Roma with the megaphone after the match. Roma is out so he stays in the ring for a while. Meanwhile The Rockers come in for their match. They go to check on Roma, who doesn't like this and starts shoving them. Rockers still try to reason with Roma after this, and soon Hercules runs in and stands beside Roma. Rockers still try to reason with them, but neither Herc or Roma are happy and all of a sudden Herc suckerpunches Jannetty, the fight is on, the heelturn is complete and the Summerslam match is set up. (You can google "The Formation of Power and Glory" on Youtube to see all this).
